I awaken to the soft, loving embrace of a lap pillow. Looking up, I'm somewhat shocked not to find Shion, Treyni or even Shuna looking down at me. Instead, there's a girl who looks exactly like me!
For a while, I'm stuck staring in disbelief at my obvious but not-so-obvious reflection...what the hell happened while I was asleep?
????: Good morning, Master...
Me: Uhh...good morning.
Sitting up, I find that we're alone in a rather unfamiliar yet somehow soothing room. As I continue taking in my lavish surroundings, my companion speaks again.
????: I am pleased to report my successful evolution, master.
Evolution? I don't think I have evolved recently. I mean, I'm still a Demon Slime so I'm not exactly seeing an...wait, she said she evolved.
Me: [Raphael, do you know who this is?]
????: Answer, MANAS entity, unnamed.
Huh...can she read my thoughts? Wait...
Me: Are you-
????: I am...I was...
Huh?
Me: Also, what was that about you not having a name? What about your prior one?
????: The name Raphael is merely the name of the Ultimate Skill known as "Lord of Wisdom".
Me: I get it. So even back then when I used it as your name it was technically not a name but merely a title...still, I thought the only way for things to evolve in this world was to name them.
????: There are other ways to evolve, such as evolving due to being subservient to a being that has completed the Harvest Festival, amongst others.
Me: And you?
????: I evolved out of my intense desire to-
As if realising she's about to say something embarrassing, she cuts off.
Me: I heard it say the others were evolving as well...are they in a similar position right now?
????: In terms of having a body and a personality of their own, yes, but we're all still capable of being used as normal.
Me: So in other words, "Raphael" still exists but you're-
????: I'm me.
Okay then. Well, this will take some getting used to. I guess for now the main thing would be to give her a name...hmm...I suppose I'll also have to name the others as well so I best choose something that'd stand out. Her last name was angelic so...
Me: Ciel.
????: I-
Me: I am naming you Ciel.
Ciel glows a bright gold which fills the entire room. At the same time, her eyes temporarily go crimson red before returning to the normal golden colour.
Manas: Ciel Evolution complete.
Ciel: Thank you, master-
????: Big brother!!!
The door to the room gets blasted through the opposite wall as what amounts to a rhino charges through. I'm shocked right into a defensive stance but Ciel seems more annoyed that concerned with the intruder. It's perhaps due to her reaction that I lower my defenses but just as I do, I'm knocked right back into the bed.
