Laurel's POV
"She's not going back there, Sam."
It's been three weeks since I got suspended. I'm supposed to go back tomorrow. Dean and Sam have been talking for almost two hours now. Sam thinks I should go back, but Dean doesn't want me to. Cas doesn't either, but I guess he doesn't count.
"I really didn't mean to hurt her that bad." I said. Cas looked up and shook his head.
"I know you didn't. They know it too. It's okay Laurel. You don't have to keep apologizing for it." Cas got up and sat next to me, "really. It's okay."
I smiled and threw my arms around him. I know I haven't been here long but I couldn't imagine not being here. I have a family.
Sam and Dean walked in the room a few minutes later.
"Laurel, can we talk to you?" Dean sat down next to me and Sam sat across from us.
"Look, I don't really agree with this, but Dean says it will help you with your anger." Sam begins.
"What will help me? You're not gonna send me back there, are you?" I stood up. My heart beat sped up. I hated that place. The only way they could get me to set foot in that place again is if there is a ghost haunting it, and there's a good chance I still wouldn't go back.
Dean grabbed my wrist and pulled me back down.
"No, we aren't. You will only have to go back if it is something you want." Dean gave me a reassuring smile. I smiled back. I don't know why I got so worked up over it.
"I don't want too." I said as I sat back down.
Dean nodded. "We want you to join us on a hunt." He smiled at me and Sam attempted to. I could tell he wasn't happy about this, but I sure as hell was.
"You're serious?" I asked, making sure I heard them right. I always wanted to hunt with them, but they never let me go. I always had to stay behind, with Cas as a babysitter. They told me that's not why he is here but I know they want someone to watch me.
"I know I'm going to regret saying this, but yes." Sam smiled, a real smile this time. "You have a lot of energy to get out and keeping you cooped up in here isn't helping."
He's right. I have been in this place since they ran into me a few months ago, no pun intended. It was cool at first, I mean, this place is huge. But I got bored. There are 148 tiles in the hallway by Dean's room, 381 in the bathroom, and 436 books in this entire place, not counting the weird shit Dean keeps "hidden" in the trunk of his room.
I returned the smile and stood up. "When do we start?"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dean's POV
I listened to Laurel and Sam talk about law the entire car ride. Laurel found it really fascinating that Sam wanted to be a lawyer. She asked more questions than a judge would ask him, but he seemed to enjoy it.
"I always thought would be a cop." She said from the backseat. "I always thought that I would be able to quit hunting, you know? I mean, after I found John of course, but I just... I don't know, I feel like there isn't any point to it now. I can help more people this way. Yes, we have to hide behind fake ID's and credit card scams, but it's still feels good. Like we can actually make a difference."
I watched Laurel thought the rearview mirror as she explained this. I really enjoyed listening to her talk. When she really passionate about something, she goes on these long ass rants, and her eyes light up and she always smiles as she explains it. I couldn't help but think that she would make a great cop... But that doesn't even matter because she won't. She will be stuck hunting. Just like Sam and I. Once you're in, there's no getting out. It always comes back to haunt you.
I sighed and turned onto the narrow dirt road on my right. We were in the middle of nowhere. Trees lined the sides of the Impala as I slowed to a stop. We all climbed out of the car.
"What are we doing here? I thought we were hunting." Laurel shut the door and looked at Sam, then towards me.
"Well, we are. We just need to train you first."
"Train?" Laurel stepped back. "I've been hunting for years! Why the hell do I need to train!?" She began to open the car door, telling us she was leaving. Most likely without us.
Why is this child so stubborn?
"You haven't been hunting in a few months. You're a little rusty, Laurel." I opened the trunk and she sighed, knowing that I was right. She nodded and shut the door.
"Which weapon should she try first?" Sam asked me as he walked over. He stared at the many weapons we kept stashed back here.
"I have no idea." I scanned the rows before the glint of an arrowhead caught my eye. I reached down and picked it up.
"Hey, Laurel? You ever shoot a crossbow?"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Laurels POV
"I've shot every other weapon in that trunk. Gimme the crossbow." I smiled at it. I've never actually shot one before but I really want to. I was going to start my training with that, but Sam figured it would be best to end with it, and he was right. I was more than just a little rusty.
Dean handed me the crossbow. It was a bit heavier than I imagined. I placed it on the ground and stuck my foot in the stirrup, getting ready to cock the crossbow when Dean called me.
"We have a crank in the trunk if you want to use it. It's pretty hard to pull back." He motioned towards the Impala.
I looked down at the weapon and shook my head.
"Maybe later." I reached down and pulled back the string, making sure to keep it straight so it wouldn't mess with my aim. I quickly picked it up and looked through the scope. I took a deep breath and pulled the trigger. The arrow flew through the air and made a loud noise as it crashed into the tree next to the target.
"Shit." I mumbled. I handed Dean the crossbow. He let out a small laugh and Sam smiled. I shot them each a glare.
I would try again but my arms hurt from pulling it back the first time.
"We'll work on it." Dean said.
"I think that's good for today. What do you think?" Sam asked me.
I nodded. "I need food." I there myself into the backseat, stretching across it. "And sleep."
"We can stop for food on the way back." Dean said. He got in the drivers seat. I watched as Sam climbed in next to him.
"Okiedokie." I rolled over. "Wake me up when you find a burger joint."
The last thing I heard before I fell asleep was the soothing sound of my brothers laughing and singing along to the classic rock music that blasted through the speakers.
