She didn't have any freedom in her life. For the eighteen years of living, all she ever experienced was being experimented on.
There wasn't any harm in the facility she was in. They treat humans with utmost care as some would say. But the other facility was a bit different than the "all humans" facility. Some humans had animal features. They look human but may have animal ears, tails, wings, or scales. They would call that facility, "The Hybrid Mix."
There were always bound for herbivores and carnivores to fall in love with humans. Love is a normal yet complex feeling. They had to keep it a secret, the facility, however, was ok with it. No one outside that facility should know that there were such relationships as that.
Misaki was aware of her surroundings, but she didn't know if she was a crossbreed or not. They always blindfolded the person before going to different areas of the facility and the only time she didn't was inside her room or in the cafeteria area. She doesn't know what she looks like as there are no mirrors or anything reflective to see what she looks like.
They also weren't allowed to tell the others what they looked like. They were told that they had to figure it out themselves which didn't take long to guess. She was sure that she was human. She didn't seem to have any animal features, unlike her friends.
Sadly enough, Misaki didn't know who her parents were. All she knew was her mother was human as well. She would always wonder what her father was. Was he a human or an animal? There are possibilities that a hybrid would look exactly like a human or a different species. She was curious about it, of course, but the facility has this rule that all humans shouldn't know about their parents. The scientists made that clear, so she stopped asking.
She was, however, envious of the humans that looked nothing like a human. The scientists would check and drop them off to those who wanted a baby but weren't able to (seeing as they weren't allowed to know their biological parents). That sounded lovely and quite kind of the facility. However, they and the parents had to hide the fact that they have human genes in their blood.
That's what she heard.
Despite being one of the few remaining humans in the world, the scientists wanted to do a social experiment. So here came Misaki. She was your typical teenage girl but with a twist. She had short dark hair with white hair strips and dark dull eyes. So, by the age of sixteen, she finally experienced what it was like going out of the facility.
They chose her for how smart and adaptive she was. Believe it or not, she was at the top of her class in the facility. She was also the most civil and knew how to stop a fight. She was one of the reasons why there wasn't any bad blood between the humans and the hybrids. They see each other as equals and the same, despite how little the community was.
The reason why she was able to go out was to learn what other animals would do with a small human like her. So, they applied her to Cherryton Academy as it is popular for its coed system. Now, for the past three years, she has had to report to the facility every weekend as she lives with her new peers.
Soon when she turned eighteen, she noticed something was different about her as she tried to live her "normal" life every day.
