After I took one last glance at our field I knew I couldn't hold up any longer. I already had my things packed for my summer at Uncle Clarion's, but I needed to get some extra things ready for me to bring. When I got back home ten minutes later, I walked up my front porch steps and into my house, "Hey! I'm home!"
My mom walked into the hall in response to my call, "Uh... have you been baking?" Mom looked at her apron covered in flour, frosting and dough.
"I made a peach pie for you to give to your uncle. You know how he loves his pie." I laughed at the thought of my uncle and his obsession with peach pie.
"Oh, and by the way, Zach is coming to Uncle Clarion's with me."
"Ok sweetie, Just make sure you two don't annoy your uncle." I rolled my eyes sarcastically.
I walked up the stairs into my bedroom.
I stood in the doorway of my room looking at my bed and the suitcase all packed and ready on top. I never realized how much I would miss this room. I'm going to miss the way I would wake up in the morning and feel the warm sunlight seeping through my window and onto my face. My bed was welcoming me to its comfort so I plopped on and just layed there. Just laying there feeling relieved that Zach would be coming along on the trip with me. Something was tickling my ear. Gosh, what is that? I felt around my ear and pulled out the Orange wildflower tucked in my hair. I twirled the wildflower between my finger just like Zach had before he put it in my hair. Zach, the boy that loved rainy tuesdays. The boy whose favorite color was yellow because it reminded him of the streaks of light he would see at the beginning of a sunrise. The boy that's my best friend, the boy that would stay up late at night to watch the stars with me. The boy...
Why are these thoughts coming to me now? Just when I was stressing myself out, Uncle Clarion's beat up, red, Chevy truck pulled in front of my house. My bed creaked as I sat up and opened my suitcase. Everything was in it's place except for one thing, I observed the wildflower's orange, delicate pedals, then I placed the wildflower right on top of all of my belongings. I closed my suitcase and ran down the stairs onto my front porch where I saw Zach sitting on the front steps.
"Hey, you ready?" I hope that sounded enthusiastic because my Uncle had hopped out of his Chevy.
"Definitely. I also brought my sketchbook and paints." Zach and his art. He always was sketching or painting, but I loved that.
Uncle Clarion approached Zach and I, "Hey Cally and...Cally's boyfriend?"
I could feel my face burning with embarrassment. Zach looked at me and back at Uncle Clarion and corrected him, "Uh... no I'm Callia's best friend. My name's Zach."
"Oh. Well nice to meet you Zach, you can just call me Uncle Clarion, or whatever suits you," Uncle Clarion shook hands with Zach and gave me a look probably asking why Zach was here.
"Uncle Clarion, I thought you wouldn't mind of Zach came along with me." Please say yes! Please say yes!
Uncle Clarion looked insulted,"Why little miss Cally why would you ask such a question? You know I would be happy to have Mr. Zach join us!
