"Do you think I'm crazy?" Charlie and I sat on a bench on the sidewalk on the main street. Today was a quiet day, the only thing that was making noise was the saloon across the street and the occasional car passing by.
"Why would I think you're crazy?" Charlie then looked at me like I was crazy. Ooh how contradicting!
"Well, I tend to laugh at random moments, I knock the socks out of stupid punks that shove me into trees, and oh wait for it... I still haven't told Zach." I looked anywhere else but his eyes to prepare myself for his reaction.
He was silent for a while. Too long actually, but finally he told me what he thought,"Callia, you're crazy because you don't have the heart to tell him, To recognize your feelings."
I absorbed what he had said. I hate to admit it but he was right. Did I mention I hate being wrong? Last night I lay in my bed contemplating my thoughts, which wasn't easy considering that I have too many thoughts to contemplate,"Just promise me something..." What was he wanting from me?!
"What is it?" His Gray eyes were worried, hiding something behind them. I asked him curiously, but more suspiciously.
Hesitant. This must be important,"Promise me that when you do know what you want... that nothing will change between us."
I hated this. This feeling of promising something that I couldn't keep. Because if I didn't choose Charlie, it would be too hard to stay friends, let alone anything,"I promise..." I hated this halfhearted promise. Was it a promise? Charlie inched closer to me on the bench, until I finally turned to face him. Our heads were a small distance apart and I just sat and admired his cute freckles until I realized he was beginning to lean in towards me, for what I assumed a kiss.
I haven't been in the kissing mood lately, it really wasn't healthy for my decision making. I didn't want to embarrass him by turning away so I leaned in a kissed him on the cheek, then resuming to looking out in the distance. As he slowly pulled back I could tell by the look on his face that he understood... Well sort of...
"Charlie?" that yucky feeling began bubbling inside me.
"Yeah?" He turned to face me again.
"Tell me how you really feel about me." I needed to know. Was he just going by what his teenage boy mind was telling him (most likely) or did he really like me more than that?
"What is there to say? You're beautiful, and every time I see you with Zach I..." I blushed at his words, but didn't understand where he was coming from when he mentioned Zach, considering he didn't finish what he was saying.
"You... What?" I crossed my arms and looked at him suspiciously.
"I can't help but envy him." His strong jaw tensed.
"Why?" I said this quietly.
"Because he has you. He knows everything about you! He has the advantage that I don't! I guess seeing the way he looks at you... It makes me sick..." His voice was sincere, furious, and... vulnerable. Not very common of a tough boy like Charlie. I guess even the strongest have to let their walls down sometime.
