Focus, it's not that hard. It's just Geometry, that's all it is. Just problems in a book hand delivered from the devil himself.

That class should be filed for torture, no way was this going to help me. I even read that homework was used for punishment. Why are we still getting punished?

"Aeron, foods ready," Liv called from the kitchen.

So basically the food isn't done, but if I go down, sit there for ten minutes the food just might make an appearance in twenty minutes at the least. Yeah I'm just going to wait it out for a minute or two.

"Aeron," she yelled with more intensity in her voice.

I growled low in my throat and finally stumbled into the kitchen. She looked at me with a kind smile gesturing me to sit.

Yeah this isn't going to be good. She only used that smile for serious talks. I laid my head on the table, waiting for what was to come.

"Uh uh. Elbows off the table,"she said pointing to my elbows with her spoon. I took my arms off the table and left my face there. "Cheeky... Anyway where is, Nalani? I thought you were bringing her home today." She scolded me, but I wasn't that easy to break.

Nalani was the girl that I saved seven years ago. She was often the wild child, but believe it or not she's really nice....sometimes.

Given our past we don't seem like the ones to live together, but we do. We consider each other sisters and we look after each other. Which means I couldn't tell Liv (Nalani aunt, our adoptive mother) where she was. She'd throw a fit to know I ratted her out.

"And I thought the food was ready. I guess we can't assume things we know aren't true," I said lowly then loudly I added, "At this current moment in time, I don't know where she is. It's dinner time, so I'm sure she'll be here when the food is ready."

Hopefully she believed enough of that to not question me anymore. No doubt that I was going to hear from her for my earlier comment. Liv just needed a minute to get her words together before she accidentally say something we both will regret.

Trust me it has happened more than once. We both remember it vividly and I won't forget it. For the first time, Nalani hadn't shown up, she blamed me for her absence. Saying that if her mom was here, she'd never be this way. What wasn't said, but was loud and clear, was if my parents never killed her, she wouldn't be this way and she wouldn't be stuck with me; a reminder of that day.

Finally when Liv got her words together, we had a good discussion of what not to say to adults. Later, she did apologize for the food not being ready.

Nalani came walking through the front door latching onto Liv in a bear hug. Their contrast was always interesting to me.

Liv was in her early forties, had a big built to her and had pale skin. Nalani was small, petite, sixteen, had the perfect body with a olive tone to her. Other than that they were the same.

You'd think Liv was her actual mom. They both had sandy brown hair, hazel eyes, small elf like nose and fuller bottom lip, that made them look like they were always pouting.

"No! Get off of me child. You had me worried sick. Where were you," she asked, pushing her to the seat next to me.

Nalani cleared her throat, holding her head up high, like always. That was her signal to me that this was all bs and I needed to back her up.

"I guess our poor, Aeron, is stressed out about that math test, she forgot to tell you. Gymnastics practice went over today, Chrissy dropped me off instead." She said it so smoothly, I couldn't tell where the lie popped up.

Liv eyed me, like I was about to crack. I gave her this is boring me stare, making her turn to get the food.

Nalani passed me a little bag of something, under the table. I knew if I looked down this would be bad. I slid it into my pocket, keeping my gaze on the table. Liv brought the food out. It was teriyaki chicken, Mac and cheese, asparagus and Hawaiian rolls. I piled my plate with it, enjoying every bite. Liv was the best cook, I've ever met.

"So sister dearest," Nalani said when Liv finally sat down, there was a hint of amusement in her voice, while she smiled at me. "Who was the boy?"

I chocked on my roll. How? I could've sworn no one was around when that happened. Leave it up to her to somehow find out. I knew my cheeks had to be bright pink right now.

"I don't know," I said quickly.

Liv cut her eyes at her, warning her to stop. I was clearly not amused, but Nalani isn't the type of person who leaves things alone.

"Well he sure liked you," she said taking a sip of lemonade. "You should've seen it, Liv, it was so adorable."

Liv wasn't finding this amusing either and I was starting to think Nalani had a drink or two tonight.

"It will be good for you. You need a boy in your life. Or you just need to get laid or something."

I take that back more like three or four drinks.

"Enough," Liv said strongly.

"Whatever you say mom," she said digging into her food. "He was cute though. Bashful too. I can see in your eyes you thought he was cute too. It'll get better."

That's when I had enough. I took my plate to the sink and returned to my room. Geometry was better than sitting there listening to her talk about that. I didn't want to deal with any guy and yet she always pushed the subject.

At least I left before she would involuntarily say something else she regrets. Everyone had that problem with me. Always saying the wrong things and I could never say anything right or simple.

The 'it getting better', was that I had to deal with my parents being pyscho and I couldn't live with that.

There was a small knock on my door. I didn't want to deal with Liv right now. I knew Nalani wouldn't be here.

Whenever she was like this she never could be around me for long, before one of us snaps. I reached for the switch next to my bed, turning the lights off. I pulled the covers over me trying to block myself from the world.

Liv touched my shoulder, slowly pulling the cover away. She didn't try to press the issue if I really didn't want it to happen. That's what I like about her, but today she didn't leave. She sat there. Then she laid next to me. No I was wrong, this was Nalani.

"I'm sorry," she said sobbing into my cover. "Ren, don't shut me out. Please, I can't do it today," she said using her nickname for me.

I pulled the cover back to look at her. Was she serious right now.

Liv must've said something to her, because her eyes were red and watery. I couldn't be mad at that face.

"Well stop trying to get in my personal business. I've told you to stop and I told you to stop drinking, Lani. Next time I won't cover for you." She nodded and wiped at her face. "Ugh, come here you hot mess," I said holding the covers up so she could get in. Just like when we were younger. "I'm not mad at you. I could never, we both just have ways we deal with things."
