Alucard never liked the idea of being protected by his followers. It's not that he didn't trust them, but precisely the opposite. He could blindly place his safety in the hands of his acolytes and they would shed their blood and soul if necessary for him.

And the father in him rejected the idea outright.

In any case, if he wanted to keep his charade and his niece safe, he had to control himself.

"Uncle!" He reacted to the little voice he was covering and easily dodged one of the debris that was flying towards them.

"You're making a mess, damn it!" He claimed to the maidens who destroyed some goblins.

"Parenting lesson number one: ..." said the one in iridescent pink armor, throwing slivers of ice.

"... no bad words in front of the children" concluded the one with flaming hair between charred meat.

"They're right," the girl muttered.

Alucard snorted and took the little girl in his arms:

"And you shouldn't be watching this," he pointed a gloved finger at her.

"But they are great!"

"No 'buts'. We are leaving."

"We got you covered!" Pinky built a wall of ice between them.

"Majo waits outside!" clamed Fenix.

"Very well."

"But, but, I want to see them fight!" the little girl claimed "I already saw grandpa, I'm seeing them... when am I going to see you, uncle?"

"Awww, how adorable!" The girls exclaimed, leaving for a moment the corpses they were destroying.

And resuming the massacre the next second.

"And you girls stop spoiling her!" He claimed them again.

"Sorry, Alu-kyu!"

"And I said no 'buts'" he turned to the sulking girl. "Let's get you to safety."

Without waiting for any more retorts, he covered her and charged with her down the already shattered hallway.

"Wait!" He was about to blurt out in response, when he saw that she was pointing to a huge, exquisitely decorated mirror "I think that mirror is important!"

"Oh, you're right." He thought, noting the slight energy it emanated.

"Ladies, take this intact mirror for the little lady!"

"Roger!"

When they reached the stairs, they realized that they had no way out. A chasm of splintered metal between floors awaited them.

"Oh ho!" Patricia lamented.

The vampire took a quick look to make sure all the cameras had been destroyed. And that no window was capturing them.

"Hold on" he said and spread his wings.

Since he jumped down to the bottom floor immediately, he didn't notice that Patricia's eyes had widened and her mouth made a perfect "o" until the third or fourth double-jump, when he stared at her.

"What happen?"

"You have wings too!" she yelled at last.

"Oh yeah!"

"And you answered just like grandpa."

"Oh..."

"Although they are different from the ones of grandpa, the ones of the angel's and the ones of..."
