[POV]JJ's morning began with a visit to Maggie and Glenn in the guard tower. She approached the door, knocking firmly.
"You guys have exactly one minute to get dressed before I come in," JJ called out.
From inside, Maggie's laughter floated through the door. "You can come in, JJ." She lowered her voice to Glenn, "I think I know what this is about."
"Okay, you know that thing we joked about a while ago?" JJ began, looking between them and trying to keep her voice steady. "You know, right before we were kidnapped."
Maggie nodded as Glenn looked confused. "What thing?"
"JJ's crush on Daryl. Keep up," Maggie said, her tone light but teasing.
JJ's cheeks flushed slightly as she continued, her words tumbling out in a rush. "Well, it wasn't exactly a crush back then, but now..." She huffed, "now it's a full-fledged schoolgirl crush."
"Is this about last night?" Maggie asked with a warm smile.
Glenn turned to her, "What happened last night?"
Maggie grinned, leaning in slightly. "Daryl and JJ were up on the guard tower. Pretty close, might I add." Her tone was playful, clearly enjoying the moment.
"We weren't that close." JJ shrugged, "Anyway, you'll never believe what happened."
"You kissed?" Maggie guessed.
JJ pointed dramatically, "No... he brought me a Pop-Tart."
"A Pop-Tart?" Glenn raised an eyebrow, his tone skeptical.
"Mhm," JJ continued with enthusiasm, "and get this—it wasn't crumbled."
"Wow, you sure have high standards, JJ," Glenn remarked with a hint of sarcasm.
"JJ, you're ridiculous," Maggie said, shaking her head with a smile. "Just tell him. You're worse than Beth was in the sixth grade. She had this crush on a guy for months just because he gave her his extra pencil in math class." She told them, continuing on like there was more to the story, "But she never talked to the guy again."
"That's encouraging," JJ retorted with a touch of sarcasm.
"Yeah, I have to agree," Glenn chimed in. "Thought there was going to be a little more to the story."
Glenn sighed, "But I don't understand why you won't just talk to Daryl? What's the worst that could happen? He goes 'Hm' and walks away?" He mimicked a nonchalant shrug.
JJ groaned, frustratedly, "Because... I don't do crushes."
"JJ's scared," Maggie teased, turning to Glenn with a smirk.
"Am not," JJ defended, her voice rising slightly. "The last crush I had was on Shane, and we all saw how that turned out."
Glenn slapped his legs and awkwardly stood up. "Well, as much as I've enjoyed this conversation about JJ's nonexistent love life, I've gotta get going on the perimeter check."
"It's existent... just not out loud," JJ quipped with a smirk.
Maggie chuckled, "Wanna stand watch with me? I could use the company."
"Because your first pick just left?" The blonde raised an eyebrow.
"I didn't say that." Maggie replied.
"Not out loud."
It wasn't long before JJ and Maggie shot up at the sound of gunshots coming from one of the cellblocks. Their hearts raced as they exchanged worried glances.
