Chapter: 39
******Conri held still the best he could. A decision has to be made. Reece pulled into the Gates of River Bay, and suddenly the wind stilled and time seemed to have slowed as they drove into his Manor. Conri held his breath, his eyes stung, and his heart ached far worse than any physical wound ever could. Reece packed the vehicle and slowly they all began to get out of the car, all six Betas. Conri slumped backward and closed his eyes. He could hardly breathe, hardly feel anything... He felt numb. The Betas stood in wait, the car doors all opened. Rafa pushed his Half in and emerged. He could see Conri could not handle this, not that it was any easier on him but time isn't exactly working in their favor. Rafa began to exit the vehicle... slowly. He stood by the car and let his eyes wander to the Left Wing of the Manor. The air was stale, and the birds wouldn't sing from the gardens. A cold chill ran down Rafa's spine, and the hairs began to rise at the back of his neck. Rafa looked away and took a deep shuddering breath... And waited.
["Come on, Half"] Conri's voice soaked into Rafa's ears and he flinched. ["We can do this"] He added and Rafa nodded, glowing orbs tinted with unshed tears. ["I'm sorry,"] Conri choked out and Rafa groaned. ["I'm sorry, I couldn't protect your Mate,"] He broke down once again and Rafa hissed. Trying desperately to keep his emotions under control and his thoughts clear.
"Our Mate, Half," He corrected and took his first step and the second, then began to sprint toward the entrance doors.
"What are you going to do now, Alpha?!" Colleen asked but the Alpha was far gone to answer him. "Do you think he will do it?" He turned toward the others but none had an answer to that question. "Shit!" He seethed with gritted teeth. "I won't let him do it!" He yelled and charged after the Alpha.
Caleb sat on the bedroom floor, panting and in tears when Rafa barged into the room, startling him. He looked up quickly and their gaze met. "Rafa," He forced a smile and Conri sobbed from within, causing Rafa to shudder. Caleb made to get up and fell back into the floor, he had tears rolling down his face, he was hurting, he was dying, and he needed help.
Rafa approached him purposefully, his knees almost buckled when he caught the warm smile Caleb offered him. "I'm sorry," He muttered and went on his knees in front of him.
"What are you sorry for?" Caleb asked.
Rafa sniffed and took his left arm, holding him tenderly. "I'm sorry for hurting you, for shooting an arrow at you. I'm sorry for not protecting you and I'm especially sorry for what I am about to do," He took a deep shaky breath and forced a smile but Caleb wasn't smiling back, rather he stared at him suspiciously. "We have two choices..." Rafa began. "To let you die, and return to the Calms, or to Reject you." Caleb's eyes bulged at his words, and he tried to get back on his feet and run, but Rafa held him down easily. "I'm sorry... I am so sorry," He brought the wrist to his mouth and bit deeply into it, drawing blood.
"No!" Caleb cried, thrashing about helplessly as the Lycan bestowed his Rejection Claim. "Stop please," He begged and tried weakly to break free of his strong grip.
Rafa stood up speedily from the floor when he was done and stared helplessly down at the god. "Caleb Xiher Kade..." He started and his voice cracked.
Caleb stared into his eyes, shaking his head as he watched the Lycan, tears rolling down his face. He could not bear it... Would not listen to what he had to say. It wasn't supposed to end like this. This can't be how it ends. It doesn't matter whether he Rejects him or not, things are going to get worse either way and much harder for him to bear, so why wouldn't he just let him handle it? He was taking care of things just fine. As a matter of fact, he almost had it. Now, he is going to ruin his plans. His hard work over the years. He must find a way to stop this. Should he accept his Rejection then, Rafa would be free of a lot of things... But, he will not accept his Rejection. No matter what happens, he must find his way out of here before he finishes with his Claims.
