Chapter: 42
******Leon gasped and sat bolt upright in bed. His heart hammered so hard that he could barely breathe through it, but after a few seconds of staring at the ceiling and listening to his racing pulse, it began to slow down. He took deep breaths into the cool darkness of the night, which helped steady him, too. When he could trust himself to do that again, Leon looked around, trying to focus on anything except how badly he had just panicked. This wasn't exactly uncommon. He always finds himself going into a shock-like state whenever the Lycan is unwell or injured. Leon glanced around the room once more but found it empty. He was going to return to sleep when the door creaked and he snapped his eyes toward the door.
Dare walked hurriedly into the room dragging a doctor with him, looking harried as if he had been running. Once the doctor stepped inside and shut the door behind him, he turned to the bed and their gaze met. "I thought you said he fainted?" The doctor asked, turning to Dare who had a dumbfounded expression glued to his face. Leon was still frozen in place, though the cold air was causing goosebumps to form along his bare arms.
"He did," Dare insisted with annoyance. "After almost one hour I struggled to wake him up. He was flat out not breathing!" As Dare spoke he ran over to Leon who was still frozen stiffly on the edge of his mattress, then grabbed one of Leon's hands between his own and pressed it against his chest. "Are you alright?!" He asked, his voice held a hint of panic and it made Leon's heart warm, knowing he cared.
"I'm better now," He replied, taking his other hand to touch Dare's face, brushing the hair back from his forehead. Dare closed his eyes and smiled faintly. Leon's lips curved slightly at the corners and he leaned forward so slowly to press them softly to Dare's, which were slightly parted with anticipation. It was all gentle exploration, nothing more than a light brush. Leon pulled away after only a moment before leaning their foreheads together, catching his breath as he felt himself relax in Dare's arms. Leon sighed, feeling like a weight had been lifted off his chest. "Thank you." He muttered and Dare's mouth pulled tight, he seemed to be fighting back another emotion.
He didn't say anything for a while. They stayed in this close embrace for what felt like an eternity until Dare finally loosened his hold and gave the Doctor space to look at him. Leon's expression was calm, yet there was something else that flashed across his eyes when they locked on him, some sort of pain and confusion. Whatever it was, it disappeared instantly when the Doctor touched his face, checking for injuries and assessing his condition. After a minute the Doctor nodded and released him.
"You seem fit and well." The Doctor said, glancing back and forth between the two men.
"I am fine," Leon insisted, forcing a smile.
Dare frowned, he wasn't fine an hour ago, they sat watching a movie when he got up to get them drinks. Upon his return he lost his footing and fell, passing out immediately. Dare had to bring him into the room and lay him on the bed, and looking at him now, he doesn't seem to remember what had happened before he passed out. He cleared his throat, "Well, uh-" Leon looked up sharply. "Do you remember what happened before you fainted?" He asked. Leon's eyes widened, and Dare's frown deepened. "That is what I mean, you don't recall what happened earlier." He pointed out. Leon shook his head and opened his mouth to speak. However, he stopped abruptly and turned towards the door.
He knew why he dropped, he also knew that the Lycan had woken, but he would not tell Dare any of that. Being the Soulmate of the Lycan comes with its share of secrets. And Dare seems to have a special vendetta with the Lycan, which means, whatever Leon knows, he can not share with him knowing that he could use them against the Alpha of Alphas. For one he is glad that he has woken up. He must speak to him immediately and to do that, he will have to send Dare away from the room, maybe make up an excuse or pretend to be sick again. He swayed gently on the bed and Dare rushed over to his side and grabbed him, hugging him tightly. Leon felt bad for what he was about to do but it must be done. His Alpha must be waiting to hear from him. He could feel the little scar on his thumb tingle. He placed his free hand on the center of Dare's back and tried to ignore how warm Dare felt, even though they were separated by several layers of fabric.
