The wolves' howls grew closer. He knew they smelt blood.
Adrenaline coursed through him as he urged his horse to gallop faster. The heart in his pouch was still warm at his side.
Guilt weighed heavily on his conscience, but escaping was his main priority.
He passed through a hidden gate and it was shut behind him.
"Your Majesty," he said, bowing after dismounting.
"Is it done?" she asked.
Silently, he presented the heart.
Murder and thievery were not the only crimes.
Abandoning a young child in the woods was a crime too.
And the hunter had fled its scene.
