A Date with Death by Fallxn_Freak

"Ves, where are you taking me?"

Vespire chuckled. "Trust me, you'll like it."

Rebel let out a small sigh as Vespire felt the corners of Rebel's cheeks lift up into a smile.

"We're almost there hun, I promise."

Vespire had been planning this date for what felt like eons to her. They both rarely ever had time to themselves, and with this being the one odd time that her crew wasn't sailing through the sky, this was the perfect opportunity.

"Surprise," Vespire whispered as she removed her hands from over Rebel's eyes.

"Wow," breathed Rebel. "It's beautiful."

Vespire draped her arms over Rebel's shoulders. "Just like you."

The sky was painted with beautiful shades of pink and purple that spilled into ebony and navy. The golden light of the sun spilled onto all the distant cobbled buildings of main street. For once, the capitol looked inviting.

"Thank you Ves," Rebel nuzzle her head into the crook of Vespire's neck.

Vespire planted a kiss on Rebel's forehead. "If you like this, just wait until later today."

Rebel's face lit up even more. "You know, you really don't have to do this for me."

Vespire sat down, feeling the plush grass between her finger tips. "Of course I do. We don't get time together too often. I love you hun, you deserve the world."

Rebel sat down beside Vespire. She smiled as the cool breeze worked its way through her hair. "I love you too Ves. It's just," she store off into the setting sun, "I don't think I deserve this-"

Vespire pulled Rebel towards her. "Of course you deserve this. Don't listen to anyone who told you otherwise. You deserve this and much, much more."

In an effort to change the subject, Rebel pointed towards the capitol. "Wouldn't it be a cool idea to start a shit show? We could get magic back for ourselves instead of using powers to please the government."

"It would be nice, really nice. Would make for a helluva date too, don't ya think?"

Vespire saw a mischievous twinkle pass through Rebel's eyes. "Could we," Rebel whispered.

Vespire chuckled. "Now, how am I supposed to say no to that?"

Rebel smiled. "Let's show the government what we're made of!

"Which of these places looks good to set up watch?"

Rebel thought for a minute, then pointed to a nearby building. "That one right there."

Vespire groaned. "Let me climb down then."

They had found what appeared to be an abandoned village that was a few meters from the capitol. Both of them figured it would be the perfect place to watch for their time to strike, and also, to explore.

Vespire landed on the ground with a loud crunch of gravel underfoot. "Doesn't this place seem a bit, I don't know, odd to you?"

"What makes you think that," inquired Rebel.

She showed Rebel her hand that was blackened with soot. "The buildings are burnt, and it must have been somewhat recent."

Rebel took in a long breath, inhaling the scents of char and ash that clung to the evening air. "So, what are you trying to say?"

"I'm saying someone might of had the same idea as us, Rebel. This wasn't burnt down the other week. I think someone burnt down the courthouses Reb."

Realization then hit Rebel as her face turned pale. "With...magic?"

"It's the only thing capable of such a thing." As if sensing the impending danger, Vespire then spoke. "Reb, I think we gotta get outta he-"

A flaming arrow whizzed past them, cutting Vespire off.

"Run!"

Vespire and Rebel took off into a mad sprint. The wind whizzed passed, the tree line steadily became closer and closer.

"We can't let them get away!"

"Who the hell are they," Rebel questioned.

Vespire quickly looked behind her. The gold embroidery on all the outfits told her all she needed to know.

"Authorities."

"How the hell did they find us?"

"No time to chat," breathed Vespire as another flaming arrow whizzed passed, threatening to scorch them.

Rebel nodded, a silent affirmation.

Suddenly, a familiar breeze whipped past them. Vespire looked above, and a smile spread to her face like wildfire.

In one arm she grabbed Rebel's waist. In another, she grabbed onto the dangling rope ladder above.

"Better luck next time gentlemen!" She smiled as they were hoisted up towards the safety of her ship.

"Full speed ahead lackies! Best be outrunning this company before they bring our ship down!"

She quickly turned to Rebel and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Sorry our date was ruined."

Rebel smiled. "It wasn't ruined, we'll get them next time."

Vespire smiled. "That we will."
