Arms filled with food we've stolen from the kitchen, Malia and I walk back through the hallways, laughing hysterically about our adventure. We had to plan it carefully. The chefs rarely ever leave the kitchen and, when they do, we only have a five minute window to get what we want and get out of there. The two of us were able to grab enough food to hide under our mattresses for a few days.

The two of us keep to the hallways that we know that employees usually don't check all that often. It's later at night, meaning they are helping most patients get ready for bed. They are too busy to pay attention to us.

I tilt my head to the side when I hear footsteps around the corner. "Someone's coming." I whisper to Malia.

Quickly, we begin to shove the food in our pockets. Malia and I laugh to ourselves as we try to find room to hide our food before whoever comes around the corner. With only a half eaten pack of chocolate chip cookies in my hands, I stuff them down my shirt just as the people round the corner.

Thankfully, they weren't employees, but just a couple of patients that live on the third level, which means their disorders put them higher up on the flagpole. The two of them immediately stop when they see Malia and I. Their eyes widening and they gradually move closer to the other side of the wall.

I glance at Malia with an eyebrow raised. A smile slips on her face. We look back towards the patients, secretly thrilled that they are scared of us. I'm sure word has been going around that the two of us will prank anyone that we can. We've been doing this for the past two weeks. Even the employees have been growing weary of our pranks.

The employees have grown to hate the two of us together because we drive the patients crazy. Malia and I think it's hilarious when I tell others that I know what's about to happen to them. They get all freaked out just by me telling them and freak out even more when it actually happens. Malia and I grow bored just sitting around here and not doing anything. We had to have some fun.

Malia slowly looks towards the two patients, who are trying to avoid eye contact with us. She fake lunges forward at the two of them. They scream and race down the hall away from us. I throw my head back in laughter.

I raise my hand in the air to high five my best friend. "Oh, that was gold."

Malia grabs the bag of candy she had snatched from the kitchen. She shoves a handful of chocolate in her mouth. "This is way too much fun."

"Literally everyone here is afraid of us." I giggle as we start walking around the corner. "I never thought that would be such a great feeling."

Malia holds out the chocolate for me. "Think we can prank Brunski again tonight?"

I shove my hand in the bag, scooping up a handful. "Probably. I heard he was wandering the second floor earlier today." I drop a few into my mouth. "Although, we should probably try to sneak past him because if he sees us with our pockets bulging, he's going to make us empty them."

Malia nods. "I don't feel like losing all of this food."

"Okay, so, room first. Then we can go find Brunski." I finish off the chocolate.

We reach the stairs and begin to jog down them. As soon as we get to our room, we hid our food under our mattresses. In the process of lifting my mattress up, my sketchbook falls to the ground at the foot of my bed. I lower my mattress back down and crouch down to pick up my sketchbook, which had landed open with the drawing of the boy face up.

My fingers run over the dark lines of the boy's jawline to his chin. I feel as if I should know him, like I saw him before, but never really met him.
