I throw the tennis ball across the room at the wall above Malia's old bed. She checked herself out of Eichen the day after Stiles let the Nogistune possess him again. She offered to break me out, but I knew I couldn't leave like that. That's not what the future shows.
"Are you sure?" Malia asks me for the hundredth time. The jacket is pulled on over her shirt. "I can't figure out how to break you out."
I nod my head. "I'm sure. He'll come back for him."
Malia gives me an odd look. "He's possessed, Corie."
"I know." I stare up at the white ceiling. I mess with the tennis ball I stole from another patient yesterday. They kept throwing it in random directions, so I just took it from them. They managed to hit someone twice. "He knows what he has to do. I can only leave with Stiles."
"But, why?"
I shrug my shoulders. "I don't know. That's just the way I see it in my head. He'll come for me."
Malia sighs, "Okay, well, I'm leaving."
I lift my legs off of my bed, dropping the tennis ball to the floor. I close the distance between us, not allowing her to escape out of a hug before she leaves. "Be safe, okay? I know you're a werecoyote, but it's been awhile since you've been out in the real world as a real person."
She fights the hug for a second before she gives in. Her arms wrap around my back. "I'll be fine."
The tennis ball collides with the wall and flies back at me. I easily catch it in my right hand before tossing it back. I repeat this action over and over again. I've only had a few visions since Stiles left. They mainly consist of the far future, but I always know that the Nogistune is gone. How? I'm not sure. Without me, the Nogistune will still be around. Stiles needs my help.
The door to my room pushes open. I continue to throw the ball against the wall without looking. One of the orderly is probably bringing in my new room. I can never seem to keep a steady roommate these days.
"Corie Blake." Brunski's voice comes from the door. "Looks like today is your lucky day."
I sigh, "Don't bother giving me a new roommate. We all know how that usually turns out."
"Corie?"
I abruptly sit up away from the wall. The tennis ball hits the wall and flies back towards me. I barely duck out of the way in time before it can slam into my face when I hear Stiles' voice. A man, who resembles Stiles in every way, stands beside him. I scramble off of the bed, surprised.
Stiles grins at me, while glancing at the man that must be his father. My eyes grow wide at the man. I know him.
My gaze swiftly transfers over to Stiles, briefly. "You came back for me."
"Of course I did." Stiles smiles. "It's time to get you out of here."
"It's been a while, Corie." The man smiles at me.
I tilt my head to the side. "How do I know you?" I ask him. Somehow, I do know this man. I'm just not sure how.
"We used to be neighbors. I was a deputy at the time, but, now I'm Sheriff-"
"Stilinski!" I blurt. My eyes grow wide with the new information. All at once, my childhood comes racing at me in my mind. Memory after memory is thrown to the front of my brain, like it's just seeing the light of day for the first time in years.
I stumble forward, clutching on to my head, overwhelmed by all of the memories I had shoved away. My childhood was never a good part of my life, but I remember the Stilinski family now. I remember how Deputy Stilinski always offered to watch me when my father was busy or how Mrs. Stilinski always said that I was welcome over anytime. I remember looking out of my bedroom window and seeing Deputy Stilinski and his son palying in their front yard.
Stiles catches me before I can collapse due to my shaking knees. I hold onto him with one hand, clenching my teeth from the memory overload. That's why I never saw anything about Stiles. I already knew him. I probably saw part of his future when I was too young to actually remember it.
"Corie, are you okay?" Mr. Stilinski worriedly glances towards his son.
I gasp in relief when the memories slow down. My fingers remain clutched around Stiles' wrist while his brown eyes search for some kind of sign on my face. The shaking in my knees cease. My head lifts up to focus on Stiles' concerned face.
"I remember you." I quietly whisper. "Everything makes sense now."
I thought I was losing my mind when I couldn't see Stiles' future. Usually, something comes to mind when I meet someone new, but, with him, nothing hit me. I've met him before. I've already seen parts of his future. Well, parts that I no longer remember because I was so young.
Stiles remains quiet and loops an arm around my back. "Come on. Let's get you out of here."
I silently nod, allowing him to lead me out of my room. Brunski gathers my few personal items and follows us out. I've always dreamed of leaving Eichen House, but I never truly knew how it would feel to actually leave. I knew Stiles would eventually come back for me, but I didn't know when.
"I need your help, Corie." Stiles whispers to me. "The Nogistune kidnapped one of my friends. I need your help to get her back."
Brunski leads us down the hallway with Mr. Stilinski leading right behind him. I keep an arm wrapped around Stiles. I knew that it had to be Stiles that would get me out of Eichen House. The whole point of me leaving Eichen House is to help Stiles, like I've been waiting for this exact moment in my life.
"Are you really...you?" I mutter, carefully not to draw attention to ourselves.
Stiles nods, "Yeah." He grabs my right hand and brings it up to his ear. His fingers guide mine to a raised up symbol.
I stop walking to grab the side of his head. "What the-" I angle his head to see behind his ear. The backwards five is on his skin, like a dark scar. "Self." I mumble.
"They're called the Oni. They check to see if you have a dark spirit in you. I'm okay now." Stiles beams, lowering my hand back to my side.
"Will they have to check me?" I glance down the hall to see how far his dad and Brunski have gone. They are nearly to the elevators.
"Yeah, but it will be okay." Stiles promises me.
"Hurry up already!" Brunski barks from the elevator.
I bite down on my cheek. "I hate him."
Stiles ushers me towards the elevator. "We all do."
I grab onto Stiles' arm before he can reach the elevator. "We get Lydia back. I can see it. I-I just don't know how yet."
"How do you know her name?"
"I saw it." I tell him. "She was in this hallway. We were both there. I-I don't know where it was, but she was safe."
