Somehow you survived the insane grenade carrying stork situation. For the first time for Baji Keisuke, and the second for you. The stork that you danced with at the park last time was the same bird who delivered a live grenade to your apartment. You don't know how high is the probability to encounter a stork that carries a grenade twice nor the possibility of a bird carrying a bomb. But it must be high enough for you to experience it two times. You just wonder what does that stork actually do for a living. A bomber from an elite aerial troop in the military? You shivered at the thought, somehow feeling a foreshadowing.
The sky outside the glass window of the Bajis' apartment unit is dark and grey. The clouds house no thunder yet still struck trepidation in one's heart. The horizon looks over unforgivingly, far from its usual clear blue canvas. The sky you know is currently unfriendly and traitorous. Not even the joyous sun can peek over its thick clouds.
The state of the horizon resembles the turmoil inside of you. The day is perfect to disclose something that will surely turn Baji Keisuke's moldy and crusty hair white.
You looked over Keisuke's kind mom. The two of you exchanged meaningful looks as both of your heart pound in an irregular rhythm. You wait for the door of the apartment to swing open that will signal Keisuke's return.
And when the door opened in the noisiest way it ever made, your heart pounded louder. Baji's mom gave your arm a light encouraging squeeze. This is it.
Baji Keisuke is usually stupid and his scores in school can attest to that, but even his dense head can sense that something is up. “What's going on?”
Ever since he entered the apartment, the atmosphere had been wrong. It was heavy, grievous, and greeted him with a sense of unwelcome. The occasional stares exchanged between you and his mother didn't helped to lighten his unease.
“Keisuke...” His mother started yet before she can even say whatever it is that itch to fall from her tongue, she turned her head away from her son and buried her head into your shoulders. His mom's shoulders shook.
“What's wrong? D,did something happened—”
“You're adopted.”
Your words cut clear through the tense atmosphere. It must be the words that should've fallen from his mother's lips seeing how her shoulders shook more violently.
Baji Keisuke do not know what to make out of the situation. Sentences— syllables— cannot form in his tongue.
“And I'm the real child.”
You stole the opportunity away from Keisuke to speak. He needs to hear this. This is something that Keisuke's ears have to accept. You just wonder how he'll react...
“I... I...” Confusion. It's what to be expected. Baji Keisuke is filled with shock, confusion, even frustration, that his tongue cannot perform it's oral function properly. “Just what...”
You nodded in understanding, urging him to continue.
“JUST WHAT TELENOVELA ARE YOU SHOOTING AGAIN?!” Baji Keisuke, the delinquent and the dumbass, screamed in rage. “Is it the one with the shitty male lead?!”
“Baji, it's true...”
The man seriously look exasperated. “Last time I was the lost son of a rich don, the day before that I was actually my mother's half-brother, and last week I was Y/n's fiance who got amnesia.” Keisuke listed all the prompts that you and his mother welcomed him with. “And now I'm adopted?! Again? Why does my role change everytime you watch a new soap opera?”
Maybe it was due to the pure, unadulterated frustration and exasperation from Keisuke's face. Or maybe it was due to his reaction of disbelief. But whatever it was, Mrs. Baji can no longer contain the laughter that was stored in the pit of her stomach. Her laughter erupted and echoed through the walls of the apartment unit, her shoulder shaking violently.
You, however, is still trying to keep the act.
“Give it up, Y/n dear.” A gentle hand landed on your shoulder and the Baji matriarch wiped the tears at the corner of her eyes. “He's no longer falling for it.”
“Did my tricks grew old.”
“It's just that Keisuke became smarter, dear.” She laughed and smiled at you fondly. It was not the first time that you and her partnered to welcome Keisuke with a dramatic script, rip-off from a telenovela you watched late at night. And it was not the first time that Baji Keisuke went home and suddenly became adopted when yesterday he was the biological son.
Due to that, a paper was slammed on a surface and you and his mother looked at the sheet that Keisuke slapped on the table.
“And got a DNA test too.” Baji's mother added.
“I'm not falling for your theatrics again.”
A pout settled on your lips, disappointed that your grand scheme didn't even reached its completion. “I was about to add that since I'm the biological child and you're adopted, it was agreed upon that you'll enter an arranged marriage with me.”
“Should I have been adopted then?” Keisuke asked, sounding a little to serious as if he's actually contemplating it.
You just wept in grief. Your masterpiece of a script... got ruined because he got a DNA test.
“Maybe I should change strategies.” You considered the thought loud enough for Keisuke to hear. His mother already left for the kitchen to prepare some snacks.
Keisuke sneered at your thoughts. “You should change your evil ways.”
“Maybe I should try doing another genre if you're no longer falling for dramas”
“Please— not slasher movies!”
“I was about to say erotica but that's a good recommendation too.”
That day, Baji Keisuke decided that he preferred the soap opera theatrics after all.
