"Bye" no response. I sigh as I slam the door of his car shut. It's been like this for a while now. He's only paying attention to her. He was always my best friend, but since he's been dating Amber everything has changed. He never calls me anymore and doesn't even ask how I'm doing. This has been going on for five weeks. Maybe it's my fault. Am I not trying hard enough? Sighing, I let myself fall onto my bed. My thoughts drift off to when we met.

I stand bored at the bus shelter waiting for the bus. It's early, it's cold and I'm all alone. At least I was until this boy came standing next to me. I don't know if he realizes it, but his music is so loud I can hear it. I must have looked at him weirdly because he takes an earbud out of his ear and opens his mouth. "Is there anything to see?" "No sorry, it's just that your music is very loud." "Oowh sorry" he smiles uncomfortably as he turns his sound down. I shrug my shoulders. "It was a good song." Carefully his gaze crosses mine. When the bus arrives at that moment I pull my public transport card out of my bag. I smile briefly at the bus driver as I check in and sit down somewhere. I don't think much about it, as the bus is completely empty. When I notice someone sitting down next to me I look up. "I'm Matt by the way."

Tomorrow Matt and I agreed to meet at a nearby cafe. For the first time in a long time, the two of us have agreed to do something together again, without Amber. I stare at my ceiling for a moment before I decide to go to sleep.

**************************

The next day I wake up around eleven o'clock. Matt and I agreed to meet at one o'clock, so I still have plenty of time. At ease, I stroll downstairs, where I spread a sandwich for myself. With the food in my hand I settle on the couch, then turn on the TV. The news, boring. I zap a bit until I come across a nice program. I eat my bread while watching the program, but my thoughts wander to Matt. I'm glad we're finally going to do something together again today. It's been so long.

I put my plate on the counter and look at the clock. One-thirty already. I walk to my closet to find a set of clothes. I think the weather is going to be pretty good, so I just put on a pair of jeans with an oversized shirt. Not too difficult. Then I get on my bike towards the terrace.

Arriving, I find a table for two at which I sit. I'm a little early, so Matt isn't there yet. Besides, Matt is usually late, so I would have to wait a while. I don't mind, since the sun is shining brightly. I close my eyes and enjoy the peace and quiet. Around me, a few people are talking quietly. I am startled by a shadow suddenly standing in front of me.

"Hi ma'am, would you like to order something?" I look at my phone and see it's one o'clock. Matt probably won't be there for another ten minutes, so I might as well order a drink in advance. "Yeah just make it an icetea." "'Alright." The boy walks back to the bar and returns not much later with my icetea. I take my first sip and enjoy the cold liquid sliding down my throat. The warm weather makes the cold drink even more delicious.

Again I close my eyes to enjoy the sun shining on my face. It really is a beautiful day. You really notice that we are moving toward summer again. The sun is shining brighter and brighter and the temperatures are rising. I love it. I think of last summer with Matt.

*previous summer*

Laughing, Matt and I run into the parking garage. It is fully summer and very hot outside. There are several young people in the parking garage, sheltering from the sun. Just like Matt and I are doing right now. We laugh and fool around. Matt found a shopping cart. "Come on get in it." "No, I don't trust you." I laugh. Matt pulls a pout. I give him a gentle punch on the shoulder. "You know I can't stand that." I quickly climb into the cart. "Matt not to fa-." I can't even finish my sentence because Matt is already going full speed forward. The sun is already setting and the parking lot is completely empty by now. "Matt watch out now we're going too fast." "'Don't whine little one." I roll my eyes. Matt has been using that nickname for me for a long time since I'm a head shorter than him. "Matt watch out a-" Before I can speak any further I'm on the ground. With Matt beside me. "Sorry." I burst out laughing, then Matt follows. We remain lying down. Staring at the ceiling of the parking garage. We are silent for a while until Matt decides to say something. "You know?" "Well?" "When I get my car next year, we won't have to sit in this stupid parking garage anymore. Then we'll be driving around all night." "That sounds like another good plan."
