5. party

It is already the next evening and I am standing in my room. I have already done my hair and makeup and am currently staring at the dress that is waiting for me on my bed. I hesitate whether I should put it on. Is it bad to put something on just for Matt's attention? Then I think about how cute the dress looked. I'm not wearing it for Matt, but for myself. I felt comfortable in the dress, so I shouldn't feel bad for wearing it. Looking at the clock I see that it is already time. The boys were going to pick me up and are probably already at the door. I get startled when there is a knock on my door. Carefully I open the door and see Nick standing there. "What are you waiting for? Put on your dress." A smile immediately appears on my face and I quickly get dressed. We walk to the car together.

Nick sweetly holds the door open for me, while I get in the back. Almost immediately I feel that all eyes are on me. "You look amazing." Says Chris as I can feel Matt's eyes on my. "Thank you."

Once we arrive at the party we are greeted with open arms by Maddi who has obviously been doing some drinking. We mutually agreed not to drink since Matt has to drive and it wouldn't be fair if he had to return home with three drunk kids. Chris didn't agree, so it wouldn't faze me if he did decide to drink.

The music was not loud at all and everyone was chatting pleasantly, which relieved me. I was afraid it would be one of those parties where you can hardly hear each other through the music and the only form of communication is dancing. Looking around I notice Amber isn't there. I tap Matt on his shoulder. "Where is Amber?" "She wasn't feeling well." I nod and my heart makes a jump. I know it sounds mean, but I feel much more at ease now that I know she's not here.

Looking beside me, I see that Chris has already broken the promise. His gaze crosses mine and I shake my head laughing. "Do you want some?" I shake my head. "I do keep my promises." I say with a wink. Chris rolls his eyes. "I never agreed to that." And with that, he takes another sip of his drink. "Do you want to dance?" I nod and loosely grasp his hand.

We walk to the dance floor, where we start dancing like crazy. I haven't felt this happy in ages and tell myself to remind myself to thank Chris for that tomorrow. After a few songs, a slow-dance song comes on and I take this as my cue to walk away when Chris stops me. "Where do you think you're going?" I smile as Chris pulls me close to him. My eyes fall over his shoulder, where I see Matt watching us. He's standing alone in a corner, where he's probably been all evening. "I'm going to Matt." I say into Chris's ear. He nods. "Go get him girl." I walk smiling in Matt's direction.

"Hi." "Hi." "You guys looked like you were having a good time." I nod. "You guys are cute together." I give him a confused look. "What do you mean?" "Just that you guys would be cute together." I burst out laughing. "So that's really never going to happen." "Why not? You make each other happy right?" I shrug. "Yeah, and he'd be perfect, but it's not going to work without feelings." Matt nods understandably.

Matt and I talked all evening, I said sorry and so did he. I have to admit that I had a great time. Also, I promised Matt to give Amber a chance. As much as it hurts, I have to accept that he has a girlfriend.

When it is time to go and I look for Chris and Nick I find out they are both drunk. Matt and I put them both in the back seat and look at each other, then burst into laughter. "They can never act normal." I nod to Matt and we both get in the car.

When we arrive at their house I offer to help put the two drunken teenagers to bed, which of course Matt doesn't refuse. I support Chris upstairs and take him to his room. From his closet I grab a t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants which I place next to him. "Here, put this on." While Chris changes clothes I walk down the hallway and check on Nick. I quickly see that Matt is not succeeding because Nick is very resistant. I watch from the doorway and can't hold back a laugh.

Then I walk back to Chris to see that he has already crawled under the covers. I smile at the sight of the boy lying comfortably in his bed and suddenly crave sleep very much. "Can I ask you something? "Sure." I sit down next to the boy on his bed. "Where were you all night? I haven't seen you at all again." "With Matt." Chris winks at me and I shake my head laughing. "No Chris, he still has a girlfriend." "Doesn't matter, you're cuter." I laugh at his statement, then I stand up. "Good night Chris."

I walk downstairs, where Matt is waiting for me on the couch. "Thanks for your help." "No problem, I'll just go home." "I'll walk with you." "Matt, I'm quite capable of walking home by myself, I live down the block." "I know, but it's dark and I refuse to let you go alone." I can't suppress my smile. It's not far, but still I'm glad Matt is with me. The streets are dark and cold which makes it quite scary.

Soon we arrive at my door. "Thanks, for bringing me." "No problem." "Sleep well." I'm just about to step through the door when Matt stops me by grabbing my wrist. "I just wanted to say, you looked really pretty tonight." I feel my cheeks warm and look straight into his eyes. Only then do I notice how close he is to me. He slowly leans closer, but I pull my face away. "Matt, you have a girlfriend." He seems to be startled out of his thoughts and immediately takes a step back. "You're right, sorry I shouldn't have done that." "It's okay, goodnight Matt." "Goodnight Olivia."
