I can't love you.

My heart is torn, my soul in pain,

For I love someone I can't attain.

Their smile, their touch, their very being,

Sets my heart and soul a-singing.

But fate has dealt a cruel hand,

And kept us apart, like grains of sand.

Distance, circumstance, or fate's decree,

Has kept us from the love we long to be.

I try to push these feelings aside,

To bury them deep and let them hide.

But they always rise, like a tide,

And flood my heart, and won't subside.

For love is a force that can't be tamed,

A fire that burns, and can't be blamed.

It fuels the heart, and feeds the soul,

And won't be quenched, no matter the toll.

So I hold this love within my heart,

Like a precious gem, that won't depart.

And though I can't have them as my own,

I'll love them still, and let it be known.

For though this love may cause me pain,

It's better than to live in vain.

And one day, who knows what may be,

Perhaps fate will smile, and set us free.
