Chapter 29

It's all cool till about 10pm.

Nina's POV

"Kal! Over here"  I waved when I saw him walk into the Diner.

"Nina, hi" He said and flashed me his prince-like smile before sitting on the chair in front of me. "I'm sorry I got here late, I was busy" he smiled again

"It's fine, thanks for introducing me to this place, it's so peaceful and cool here, I get to work on my art in peace" I said.  Some weeks back Kal brought me here, he said he wanted to draw me again and he did,  he seemed to enjoy drawing me, because he did it over and over and over again and if I was being honest I enjoyed it, I enjoyed being wanted.

"Your welcome, but you still prefer the park right?"

I nodded multiple times. "Nothing beats the park" I said with a big grin.

"So, what are we ordering?" He asked and picked up the menu,  the sleeves of his jacket rolled up and I gasped

"Kal, what happened to your hand?!"  His hand was covered in blood and it looked fresh. "Are you hurt?" I tried reaching out to touch him but he took his hand back and covered it with the sleeve.

"Yeah.....uh...no, I'm not hurt, I just got ...uh... a little bruise" he smiled

"That's not little Kal, it looks bad, like hospital bad" I said and he ignored me and got up.

"I said I'm fine!" He yelled

"....just give me a minute to wash up" he said and left for the restroom.

Kal was secretive, I didn't know much about him except that he was artist. Whenever I asked about his past or interests he'd say 'it would be better i found out for myself. '

10 minutes had already passed when he got back.

"I'm sorry I took so long" he said and sat down

"It's fine, i have to leave now anyway" I said and didn't look him in the eye, I got up and left the Diner. He followed behind me.

"Nina" he called my name with a softer tone than he used minutes ago, "are you mad at me?" I finally looked at him and the look on his face melted my heart

"No, it's just..... I don't know anything about you and your always so distant, don't you trust me?"  His face fell

"I do, Nina...." he cupped my face. "I like you,......a lot" he said and my cheeks heated up.

"I'm just not used to opening up" he sighed and lowered his hand

"i had a fiancé, I trusted her with my life but she betrayed me, she ran away from me"  he said looking so vulnerable.

I thought about standing on my tiptoes and kissing him, but I couldn't, sadly enough,  I wasn't over Damien.

"I'm not your ex Kal, I wouldn't leave you" I smiled and his eyes lit up with a hidden fire.

"Do you still want to know about who I really am?" He smiled and I nodded.

"Then let's go on a trip" he smiled

"What? Like right now?" I asked and he nodded with a boyish grin.

"But....i"

"Come on, we'll be back before dawn" he smiled urging me to say yes.

"Uhmmm...I guess it's okay" I said and he pulled me into an excited hug.

"Thank you" he said and I chuckled.

If I had known then, I never would have agreed to it.

Kal and I decided to pick up some necessities for our trip.

"How many bottles of water do we need for a day trip?" I laughed seeing how he had bought two packs.

"You'd never know,  we might need to stay longer" he said, I was about to object but then I spotted Damien.

"Damien!" I called out and he turned to our direction,  his dark hair was messy and his tall figure was dressed in his black hoodie and sweatpants, the hoodie that smelled like him, i had worn it sometime ago,  one of the best days of my life.

"What are you doing here?" I asked

"Bakery errands" he shrugged and I felt a pang of guilt, We all had our individual tasks in taking care of the bakery, i and Damien's were to go shopping, but I haven't really been home these days.

His eyes went from me to Kal and he glared at him.
"Who?" He asked in a calm
but aggressive tone

"Oh....uh, this is Kal, my friend, Kal this is....uh Damien" I said awkwardly.

"Oh, that Damien" Kal said with a hidden smile and stretched his hand to Damien

"Let's go Nina, I'm done with shopping" Damien said, ignoring Kal's gesture.

"I can't, I'm going on a day's trip with Kal" I said and I saw his jaw clench

"A day's trip? Do you even know this guy?"

"Yeah, he's my friend, we've been talking for weeks now" I said trying to defend myself.

"So he's the one who's been distracting you these days huh?" He said with a sarcastic smile.

"It doesn't matter, I'm going with Kal so just go home" I sighed

"Yes Damien,  go home" Kal said and put his hand on my shoulder.

That sent Damien off, he pushed Kal off me and grabbed his shirt.

"Don't you dare touch her, who the heck do you think you are?!" Damien said aggressively.

"Someone you wouldn't want to mess with" Kal smirked and Damien was about to hit him but I stood between them.

"Damien stop.....please" I pleaded and he scoffed.

"We're going home" he said and grabbed my hand, his hands on my skin burnt and gave me butterflies but I ignored them, he was dragging me away from Kal.

"Damien stop!" I said and forced my hands out of his.

"What's your deal?" I yelled

"What's my deal? Nina what's your deal? You really want to go on a trip with a complete stranger?! I thought you were smarter than that!" He yelled and my heart shattered.

"He is not a complete stranger, and at least he cares about me, I have been following you around all my life and you never gave me a second look but the second 16 showed up she was all you could talk about"

"This is not about me or 16, this is about you!"

"Heck no! It's about you! I'm in love with you Damien, you were my first love" I confessed and wanted to cover my face with my hands but stood my ground. He went quiet and turned his face from me.

"Do you not have anything to say?" I asked, my vision got blurry, I was going to cry.

"Nina, this isn't the time to-"

"Then when is the time?!" I asked holding back tears "Who am I to you Damien?" I asked and looked at him straight in the eye, and yet again, he went quiet.
"Can you not answer such a simple question?" I breathed, When he didn't say anything I turned to walk away but saw Kal standing afar watching us. He slowly opened his arms and I ran into it, i got into his car and Kal whispered something to Damien before getting into the car and zooming off.

In the car I covered my face and wept.
