Chapter Nineteen

Sapphire O’Loughlin POV

Time was passing quickly I wasn't quite sure what to do with myself, Steve had banned me from going into work even though I still went in, just to annoy him. He should be grateful because I was bringing him lunch and a different cake nearly every day; I knew that the rest of the team was, I swear Danny had even put on some weight. The Governor had brought in a temporary partner for Steve so it meant that he wasn't on his own, Lori Western. She seemed okay but I had a feeling that she liked Steve; I don’t think Steve, Kono or Danny had told her that me and Steve were together and that I was expecting his children. However, you would have thought with the fact that I was in his office nearly every day and that I was bring him lunch she may have caught onto the fact that there was something between us.

             Kono had been having a hard time due to the fact her and Adam were going through a rough patch, and that it was the anniversary of Chin’s death at the end of the week, no one on the team was looking forward to it. Something else that was driving her nuts was the fact that she was receiving letters from an anonymous sender. They were always typed and were always from a different printer so Fong was never able to get a match. The messages were always along the same lines, ‘How are you?’, ‘I’m doing okay’, ‘How is the team going?’ and ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘I’ll be back soon’; it was scaring not only her, but the team as well, Steve thought it may be some criminal they had locked away.

             Danny had said the other day could it have been Chin sending the letters especially since they were being sent to Kono who was his cousin but Steve had pretty firmly said no because he was the one that was told by the Doctor that Chin had bleed out on the operating table a few hours after being shot.
“What are you thinking about?” Steve asked interrupting my thoughts. I was led out on the sofa with a Malteaser balance on my belly waiting for one of the twins to kick, it was game that Jamie and I liked to play; we would see how many we could get on there before they kicked them off.
“Those letters that Kono keeps getting,” I replied snatching the sweet up before Steve could get it; instead he took the rest of the packet and ate them in a couple of mouthfuls.
“Don’t,” he commanded playfully but I knew that there was a serious edge to it. “I don’t need you stressing out over anything,” he sat on the end of the couch taking my feet into his lap rubbing them gently.
“Don’t worry;  and you have to be kidding,” I laughed, “Kono has some random person sending her letters like some stalker and you are telling me not to worry?”
“Well okay, that was a foolish mistake,” he chuckled, “But I mean it though I don’t need you worrying about that kind of stuff, keep that overactive brain of yours out of it.”
“Yeah whatever,” I replied getting up awkwardly and heading into the kitchen in search of food. “Ahh, we have nothing!” I cried stomping, well slowing slamming my feet to ground back into the living room. “Steve baby,” I said seductively walking up to him.
“Yes,” he smirked knowing where this was going.
“Go get me some food.”
“No, we have plenty in there, make do,” he laughed getting up and leaving me alone in the room. This was fatal mistake because I just came up with my own to get food here. After doing what I need to do, I settled down onto the sofa for a nap.
“Steve go get the door,” I shouted though the house when I heard the doorbell go off. I heard the movement of Steve grumbling as he came through the house and heading to door only get a shock when it was Kono, Adam and Danny on the doorstep; Grace was with him as well.

“Guys where is the food?” I asked when I came to the door, Steve turned to look at with disbelief.

“Are you being serious?” he laughed, wrapping his arms around my waist.

“Yup, now hand the food over and no one gets hurt,” Kono handed the food to me with a chuckled and I practically run into the kitchen with hunting for the chocolate ice cream. I found the ice cream and opened it, hunting through the drawer for a spoon. I tucked it into and when I first put the cold creamy goodness into my mouth I actually moaned it was that good. Kono, Danny, Adam and Steve all stood in front of me as if I was an idiot.

“I have been wanting this all day, actually these two have wanted it all day,” I said patting my stomach lovingly. “And he wouldn’t get it me to leave me alone and let enjoy my ice cream,” I stormed out the room and into the garden to watch Grace and Jamie play.

Steve McGarrett’s POV

“Hormones?” Danny asked trying not to laugh.

“Don’t I know it,” I replied sighing, “this is the best it has been in ages and I still have another four months to go.”

“I bet, now get that BBQ going we are hungry and your woman promised us a BBQ,” Danny laughed putting the meat and beers in fridge. I went outside and saw Sapphire with her feet propped up and the two girls chatting away to her, they must have come in at some point and got spoons because they were all eating the ice cream that Sapphire had. I smiled at the picture, I couldn’t wait for our two growing babies in her to finally be here so I could hold them and love them with all my heart. After we had all eaten, Sapphire had eaten more than any of us, including Danny and Kono which surprised us all, we went down to the beach and sat with the girls as the played. We played some football all-separating into different teams, Sapphire obviously stepping out and being the referee. Danny, Jamie and Kono were on one team and the Grace, Adam and I were on the other team. Jamie’s team won in the end but three points, but I swear it was because Sapphire was out to get me, because every time I got near enough to score she would whistle and say that I had fouled somehow.

“Okay so that wasn’t the fairest game in the world,” I laughed once we had finished, Sapphire just laughed and wrapped her arms around my neck.

“I was bribed,” she whispered in my ear, I pulled back and looked at her oddly; the smile on her face proved that she wasn’t lying.

“With what?” I asked genuinely curious now. The smile that crossed her face was just pure delight over the fact that she had something over me.

“Well, Kono bribed me with a spa day, Danny bribed me with food and your daughter bribed me with breakfast in bed for a whole week,” she laughed giddily; when Jamie came running across she wrapped her arms around Sapphire and giggled into her shirt.

“Traitor,” I shouted aghast, I grabbed Jamie and dragging her back with me. The giggling girl fought against me as I tried to tickle her. She got away and ran behind Kono. I laughed when I saw Kono then started to tickle her as well, so she ran to the one person who she knew would protect her, Danny.

“Uncle Danny, don’t let him get me,” she screamed with laughter, then clawed at Danny’s waist hiding behind him, knowing that he would protect her.

“I won’t let him get you I promise,” he laughed, then turning round and started tickling her. We all burst into laughter as he tickled her and Grace decided to join in except she was helping Jamie. She jumped onto her father’s back and covering his eyes. Jamie got away and ran to Sapphire.

“Mom,” she laughed, suddenly halting when she realised what she said. Everyone was a little struck by it, including me. “Sorry,” she whispered

“Don’t worry, if you want to call me mom it’s up to you. Don’t ever apologise either, okay?” Sapphire said easing down on her knees. Jamie hugged her and I could see a lone tear slide down Sapphire’s cheek, I knew that she had been waiting for the day that Jamie fully took to calling her mom, I didn’t know whether it would be today or tomorrow but it would be soon. When Jamie looked away Sapphire looked at me smiled.

“Right now help me up,” we all laughed and Danny and me moved over to help her up. Once she was up we planted her onto the chair that she had been sat on before the football game, instead of going back to the antics before, we decided to sit and chat and enjoy the cold beers that had been brought over, Sapphire was obviously on the soft drinks.

I spent the evening with the people I love, eating, chatting and having fun. Everyone stayed that night, Grace stayed in Jamie’s room, Kono and Adam slept in the spare room, which I would eventually change into the nursery, and Danny slept on the sofa after we thought it would be best since he had had the most to drink.
