I was worried the entire day about Kyree. She was suicidal as it was- what

would our fight do to her? I watched from a distance as Ree grudgingly trudged

off to swim practice after school. Guilt washed over me. Why was I making her

do something she didn’t want to? Right. Because, in her words, I was a deceiving

jerk. On the bright side, I didn’t have to make my friends hate me, because Ree

wouldn’t be sitting at our table.

It wasn’t a very bright opportunity in comparison to the negative.

The school pool smelled of nothing but chlorine, just like it always did. I

grabbed a towel to wipe off the bleachers before sitting down on them and taking

out my homework so that it wouldn’t look like I was waiting for them or anything.

Even though I was so anxious that I was practically bouncing when a bunch of

girls emerged from the locker room five minutes later. Usually, they all just

jumped in and started swimming.

Today was different.

Today, they were all surrounding Ree.
