Jisu was sitting at the empty bench near a 24/7 convenience store. She had a good cry after a long time. But why did she do that in front of Jungkook? "phabo!" [idiot] She shrugged her head and shoulders. An unexpected cold wind blew across her face and it made her cover her cheeks, with the long sleeves of Jeon's black leather jacket. He gave it to her back in the bar. Jisu covered her eyes tightly with fingers while remembering the earlier embarrassing moment.
"Gwenchanayo?" said Jeon. Jisu looked up. He offered her an ice cream cup. "It's your favorite blueberry flavor." She took the cup from his hand and quietly began eating in small bites.
"I talked to a friend of mine. She's in the interior design business. You'll get a call soon. I can't promise high pay but it will be enough for you to live nicely." Jeon took a spoonful of ice-cream and quickly ate it. Jisu wondered, isn't that too cold? "I hope it's clear that you're quitting this job from this very moment?"
"Huh... yes. Ne ne!. Gomawoyo!"
"No need to say that. Let's just leave the past behind. Okay?"
"Hmm...okay! Also, I thought you were dating that yeoja (woman)." Jisu took the emptied cup from his hand and threw it in the nearby dustbin.
"Aaniyo!"
"Please. You've got her as your wallpaper. I saw it." Jisu chuckled.
"Ya! I..."
"In love, Jeon Jungkook?!"
"Use honorifics. How many times do I have to remind you of that? You're still a minor."
Few minutes pass by...
"Will you promise to visit me, Jungkook?" Jisu tied her hair back in a small bun as she said that. Jeon thought for a while. He looked at the innocent face. He was angry. Very angry... Mad! But not at Jisu. Was he mad at the man back in the cheap suite room? Was he mad at Yuda? Was it him? After a while he said, "I won't. I can't promise you anything."
Jisu's heart sank before he completed the whole sentence. "Of course you won't. It's okay. I needed to hear that." She gave out a smile but her face was burning red. Jungkook pretended it was all because of the cold wind.
"You know I don't blame you, right? You did what you had to do to survive. By no means even for a split second I judged you. Everyone has their reasons."
"Hmm... Thank you again. I'll try to be a better person this time." Jisu bowed down which took Jeon by surprise but he appreciated the clumsy effort.
"Come inside the car." He opened the door for her. "I'll drop you." Jisu nodded and sat inside comfortably. She placed her hands in the pocket of jacket and something touched her fingers. It was a photograph. She carefully looked at the picture to remember where exactly she had seen this man.
"Do you...is there any chance you know this guy?" abruptly said Jungkook.
"Umm... yeah sort of," said Jisu preoccupied with some thought in her head. "He's been one of the clients. Weird one though."
"Tell me more about it." Jungkook turned his head towards her.
"He has never touched me once and still payed for the service."
"How often he has ... uh...used this service."
"Six times to be precise. Each time he booked me on some odd hours, mostly in early evenings or really late at night."
"What would he do if he didn't- i mean..."
"Fucked me? It's okay Jungkook.
Yeah he never did. He just asked me to sleep peacefully in the bed while he does some canvas painting.""What kind of painting?"
"Flowers! Sunflowers."
"When's the last time you met him?"
"Five-six months ago. I don't remember exactly. He finally finished the painting but... when he went to the washroom, I took a closer look at it. It was so beautiful. I think the guy was some lonely art lover. Maybe the girl left him or died, I don't know. "
"What made you think that?"
"Because he wrote some girl's name at the bottom where he signed it. What was it again? Ah, I can't remember."
"Think hard!!!"
"Whoa... why is that even important. Is he a criminal or something?"
"Just think hard Jisu! What was it?"
Jeon's phone blinked with a message on top. It was Officer Seokjin. He ignored it and looked back at Jisu.
"Seokjin! Isn't he the fellow officer who worked on my parents' case with you?"
"Yeah. Not important. Tell me did you-"
"Ahhh! Seokjin! Seok....AeAe...Seok. 'To my dearest Aeseok!' That's what it said."
***
"Get in the car!", anxiously said Jeon.
Officer Seokjin looked at him for a while before sitting inside. "Are you okay?"
"Why are you working so late? You should be with Aeseok," said Jeon, turning the steering.
"Yeah. Couldn't keep track of time. Anyways, I talked to her on the phone. She's fine." Seokjin felt a little alert once a strong smell hit his nose. "Who were you with? Such strong perfume!"
"You won't believe whom I met at Yuda's bar tonight."
"Who?"
"Jisu."
Jeon tried best to keep his focus on the street while narrating the entire incident to Officer Seokjin. He raised his eyebrows once Jeon mentioned the painting. He immediately recalls how last time, Taehyung took the sunflower painting out from his living area for some exhibition. Could it be the same art? But it looked exactly the same when he brought it back.
Bringing the phone out of his pants back pocket, Officer Seokjin dialed his home landline number. It rang for a while and then a familiar voice echoed from the other side.
"Yeoboseyo! Appa, where are you?"
Seokjin relaxed back in his seat after hearing her voice. "Why didn't you sleep? I'm on my way. Appa will be there soon. Okay."
"Ne! Come soon. I have a surprise for you," said Aeseok while giggling. Her voice cracked for a few seconds. "Appa....you...you'll."
"Aeseoka! Ah! Network. Are you there?"
"Appa, he has come to visit us!"
"Who? What are you saying, Aeseokaa!!!"
"Samchon!" [Uncle!]
