His Name Is Ego

We all looked to Peter and he looked the most surprised out of all of us. He tensed up beside me.

"Uh, why don't we get a fire started and we can all sit down and chat, huh?" I asked breaking the silence and rubbing Peter's arm.

"That's a wonderful idea, young lady." Ego grinned and clapped.

Each of us had walked around the forest picking up spare twigs and Drax had dragged over some of the shorter logs for seats. Nighttime was falling quickly and soon enough it was dark. The fire was lit between us and we all sat around listening to Ego speak to Peter about his past.

"I hired Yondu to pick you up when your mother passed away." Ego explained. "But instead of returning you... Yondu kept you. I have no clue as to why."

"Well, I'll tell you why. Because I was a skinny little kid who could squeeze into places adults couldn't. It made it easier for theivin'." He mentioned sadly.

I sat across the fire next to Gamora wishing I could be close to Peter in order to comfort him. But it wasn't me he needed right now. It was his Dad. I could see the slight resemblance in their faces so their really was no mistaking it. He was telling the truth about being Peter's Dad. This was something Peter had always talked about. Something he dreamed about.

"Well, I've been trying to track you down ever since." Ego said.

"I thought Yondu was your father." Drax mentioned seriously.

"What? We've been together this whole time and you thought Yondu was my actual blood relative?" Peter asked in disbelief.

"You look exactly alike." Drax pointed out as he ate his dinner.

    "One's blue!" Rocket exclaimed.

"No, he's not my father." Peter scowled. "Yondu is the guy who abducted me, kicked the crap out of me so I could learn to fight. And kept me in terror by threatenin' to eat me."

"Eat you?" Ego asked just as he had taken a bite of his food.

    "Yeah." Peter nodded.

"Oh, that son of a bitch."

"How did you locate us now?" Gamora asked curiously.

"Well, even where I reside, out past the edge of what's known... We've heard tell about the man they call Star-Lord." Ego said proudly as he gazed at his son.

Something felt funny to me about this interaction. Was it possible that I was... Jealous of their interaction? How could they have only heard of Star-Lord. No one heard of him until 3 months ago. And if it were before that how come I wasn't mentioned? Peter and I went on every adventure together. We did everything together as a team and now we were apart of the greatest team of them all. The Guardians of The Galaxy. But he didn't mention any of them either. At least Peter had a father that was out looking for him after he went missing all this time... My own father was much to proud to do something like that...

"What say we head out there right now?" Ego said happily and he got to his feet. "Your associates are welcome. Even that triangle face monkey there." He motioned to Rocket who insecurely rubbed his snout. I frowned and patted his back to comfort him. "I promise you it's unlike any other place you've ever seen. And there I can explain your very special heritage. Finally get to be the father I've always wanted to be. Excuse me... I've gotta take a wiz."

Ego excused himself in order to go to the bathroom. Peter's smile turned into a frown and he looked over at me specifically.

"I'm not buying it." He said shaking his head.

"Come take a walk with me." I said and stood up.

Supportive girlfriend. That's what Peter needed right now. He just found his father and he deserves to at least get to know him.

Peter and I walked into the forest quietly beside one another. Not speaking a word, stepping over branches. We could hear Mantis and Drax's laughter from here.

"Give me a break." Peter scoffed loudly suddenly and I looked over at him. "After all this time, you're gonna show up, and all of a sudden you wanna be my Dad?"

"I hear you." I nodded along with him.

"And by the way, this could be a trap." Peter threw out there and I bobbed my head back and forth knowing it was a possibility. "Okay, the Kree purists. The Ravagers. They all want us Dead."

"I'm not disagreeing with you, Peter... But..."

"But what?" Peter sighed as he stopped and looked at me. I walked closer to him and placed both of my hands on his chest, making him move to place his hands over mine and he rubbed them with his thumbs.

"What was that story you told me. That one with, uh, Zardu Hasselfrau?" I asked trying to remember.

    "Who?" Peter asked confused.

"He owned the magic boat." I pointed out.

"Oh. David Hasselhoff?" Peter clarified and I nodded.

    "Right."

"Not a magic boat, Y/n. A talking car." He said slightly insulted that I got it wrong.

"Right, sorry. Why did the car talk again?"

"To help him fight crime, and to be supportive." Peter groaned.

"As a child, you would carry his picture in your pocket... and you would tell all the other children that he was your father, but that he was out of town." I spoke and he nodded along with me.

"Shooting Knight Rider or touring with his band in Germany. I told you that when I was drunk, darlin'. Why are you bringin' that up now??"

"Because I love that story." I said softly.

"I hate that story!" Peter groaned and he moved away from me. "It's so sad. As a kid, I used to see all the other kids off playing catch with their Dad. And I wanted that, more than anything in the world!"

I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his stomach, leaning my head on his back.

"That's my point, Peter." I sighed listening to his heart beating. "What if Ego is your Hasselhoff? What if he really is the Father you dreamed about as a child? You should give him a chance."

Peter turned in my arms and he held around my waist and looked into my eyes lovingly.

"You think so?" He asked softly as he stroked a finger down my cheek.

"I do. And listen if he ends up being evil we'll just kill him." I shrugged as I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling us closer together.

"Kill him?" Peter chuckled as he raised a eyebrow.

"Hey, no one gets away with hurting anyone in our family." I giggled.

"God, I love when you go all angry murderous on me. It's really hot." Peter laughed as he leaned his forehead against mine. "I love you. Thank you for being for this. Thank you for persuading me."

"I love you too. You'd do the same for me... Except my biological Father's just a douchebag King who sits on his throne all day long. Where as my Dad. The man who raised me and cared for me a better portion of my life. Is already dead." I joked and he stared at me unamused. "Dark humor, I know..."

    "Y/n." Peter sighed.

"Peter?" Ego shouted from the camp.

"Well, we better get back." I lightly kissed Peter's lips. "Come on."

We all went to get some shut eye on the Milano for in the morning. The decision had been made. We were going with Ego. Peter and I curled up together in his room as it was the least damaged of the two. I always fell asleep easier being in Peter's arms.
