a/n: ok so I have definitely pulled away from the canon daredevil plot but it fits with story at least.

It turns out, my lawyer is quite fine. With a bonus that he knows how to dance and how to laugh.

But, that being said one thing kept nagging at the back of my mind as we spoke.

'Why does he sound like that vigilante freak who rocks the DIY robber outfit' Mal spoke and for once she said something that I agreed with.

"Y/n?" Matt asks as we finish dancing and he leads me back toward a table. His arm looped through mine as he gets his guiding stick out of his pocket. Just him saying my name reminds me that I got sidetracked and hadn't answered him.

"Yes, sorry I got sent an invite which was odd since I don't even know the man" His face drops for a moment before he plasters a timid smile on it, "Lucky you then" he jokes. I roll my eyes, "Sure if you consider lucky getting blisters on your feet from dancing all night then..." He chuckles.

From the corner of my eye, I see someone staring at me. Upon turning I feel my breath hitch. Matt frowns, "What's wrong? Everything ok?" He asks somehow turning his body in the direction of where I was looking. The man staring at me was the man in glasses. The man that tried to have me killed not too long ago.

The man smirks, lifting his glass before walking away. Turning my attention back to Matt I nod, "Yeah everything is fine. But I've got to go catch up with someone, thank you for the dance" I call as I start weaving my way toward where the man was, I see a glimpse of him again just as I turn to follow him I walk into someone.

"Ow, shit, sorry" I groan as I rub my nose briefly. The person in front of me chuckles. As his hand clamps down onto my shoulder. "No worry sweets, but how about a drink to make up for it?" The older man smirks, winking as he squeezes my shoulder. My brows furrow whilst I try to look around him, attempting to ignore him I go to move away when his tuts and his other grimy hand comes up to my chin and directs my focus back to his face.

"Oh come on darling, just a drink? Least you could do" He purrs and I have to prevent myself from gagging. Catching a glimpse of the man I was following I quickly rip the man's hands off of me and get away from him, whilst he laughs at my actions, voice bellowing after me. "Playing hard to get, I like it"

Ignoring the sleazy man, I turn down another hallway, leaving the ballroom about to enter the same room as the man before my wrist is grabbed and I am spun back behind a wall. Nat and Tony look at me, Tony's hand on my wrist and with one finger held up motioning me to be quiet. I frown, shaking off his hold. "The next man that places a sweaty palm on me-" Tony cuts me off by placing his hand over my mouth and pushes me firmly into the wall, making me hit my head firmly but as a warning. I glare at him just as he glares back.

Nat peers around the side before quickly taking out her gun and pressing down on her earpiece. "Yeah we got them 10 inside and 4 remaining in the ballroom... what? Oh," She smirks as she looks over at me with a raised eyebrow at how close Tony is. "Yeah...we got her too" She replies before she gives Tony a nod.

Tony grumbles before pulling me tightly with him as we leave the same way I came, but instead of entering the ballroom, he leads me down a separate hallway and out some back door that leads into an alleyway.

Once out in the cool air, I push him away from me. He sighs. "Hill, not now... we need to go" I shake my head. "No, what the fuck was that in there?" I grit he raises his brow. "As in, when we stopped you from entering a trap? It's called saving your life dumbass" He snarks reaching for my wrist again when I take a step back.

"I didn't need you to save me" I defend just as we hear footsteps behind us, Tony turns around and grunts as he is punched in the face. My eyes widened before I push Tony away and take my knife out from my halter and stab the attacker. The man grunts as I imbed the blade in his shoulder before slamming his head into the wall, knocking him out.

"See?" I huff, Tony grunts standing up again, pressing his hand to his nose where blood begins to seep out. "Yes, my point is proven, not safe" He grabs my wrist and tugs me along before stopping and pulling me directly behind him as more men enter the alleyway.

"She had one job" He mumbles, angrily pressing buttons on his earpiece before he turns to me, a defeated look on his face. "Ok listen to me, no mocking or snark, just shut up, and listen," He says sternly. I go to say something but he glares at me. "There are five men entering the alleyway in front and JARVIS tells me there are four more behind. My suit is a couple of blocks away, so we need to deal with them whilst I wait for it to arrive. Got it?"

Unable to help it a sly smirk appears on my face. "So suddenly I can fight for myself?" I snark and he ignores me as he picks up the gun from the unconscious attacker behind us. "Prove it then" he grumbles making me chuckle.

Flipping the knife in my hand so I had a better grip on it I take a breath before the silence is interrupted by a man's voice, shouting at us. "Ms Hill, save us another blood bath and come with us-" "Not going to happen, she's unavailable and tragically uninterest in alleyway strays" Tony snarks back. And I have to prevent a laugh from escaping.

"Mr Stark" The voice calls back amused. "I understand you want to protect her but, I assure you no harm will come to her, my employer simply wants to talk to her in person" I recognise the voice and step out from behind Tony, and his hand darts out quickly stopping me from walking any further.

"Your employer? Business hours are over, try again and maybe we can organise a meeting" Tony snaps. Looking at me briefly. I ignore him as I stare at the man who is now a couple of steps closer. "Wesley, fancy seeing you here. Bet you didn't think you'd be seeing me again after our last meeting" I snarl. Wesley chuckles. "My dear you take me for a fool, our last meeting was merely a test to see if our information is correct"

My face pales in realisation and looks to Tony fleetingly. "Tony" He turns to me more concerned now with the use of his first name. "JARVIS suit ETA now!" Tony calls, his jaw clenching when he obviously hears an answer he doesn't like through his earpiece.

"...Once again Mr Stark I assure you no harm will come to her. Unless of course my employer discovers how difficult the situation is becoming" Tony goes to say something but with my free hand I place it over where he held my wrist and squeezed. Turning back to Wesley I tilt my head. "You know Wesley I take it you're a man of honour, so why crash a gala? You could've just asked to dance and do this whole villain monologue" He smirks and I feel myself waver.

'Mal don't' I warn

Why? You are obviously in danger and this guy is a persistent prick

My eyes flash as Mal tries to take over but I take a step back, trying to keep her in. Wesley's smirk widens. "Is this is? Is this what happens when you can't protect yourself? Someone else takes your place?" He jeers. Tony eyes them cautiously whilst looking over at me. "Hill, you alright? Now's not the time to go haywire"

Stop resisting, let me help

Her voice was much louder this time, quickly I turn to Tony.

"Just don't let them hurt him either," I say quietly since I could feel her surfacing, I hear her complain whilst I look at Tony's concerned face. "Y/n?" He says lastly as I mumble an apology as I feel Mal take over.

God knows what did, as everything faded into black
