It was comical how she adjusted so quickly to being back on earth, you'd think it would take time to adjust to being on Earth and around humans again. Yet she found herself ignoring her aching pains as she quickly raced down the streets of NYC and then ducked down an alleyway and was met with her pacing stepbrother.

"Jesus what took you so long?" Sam mumbled as he saw her going to her and hugging her.

She hugged back but then pulled away as she huffed. "Nice to see you too? How have you been?" She sassed, and he hummed. Rubbing a hand across his face. "I'm sorry, look-" "Hey, hey it's alright you don't have to explain. Just tell me what happened and how I can help" She cut in eyes widening as she scanned his worried face.

He sighed pursing his lips he then composed himself standing up straight. "Did you know he was involved in Hydra?" Furrowing her brows she tilted her head "Who?" "William" She recoiled as he said his name, her body stiffening. "Oh," She let out, eyes dropping. Closing her eyes she whisks her hand around as she explains. "Yeah... uh, I think I found out during the supposed fall of SHIELD/Hydra. However, I didn't bother to find out what happened to him... why?"

Sam looked at her stunned for a moment before he clenched his jaw and looked away. "Yeah... after the release of all Hydra associates and corrupted counterparts, William was arrested. I, I fell out of contact with him after mum died, but I saw him on occasion since he was Jessica's legal guardian and I couldn't leave her alone with him" He paused, still gazing out into the back of the alleyway. And had to blink away the memories. "But since his arrest child protective services have been threatening to take Jess away"

"What? Can't you get Dean to use his FBI credentials to get them to leave you both alone?"

"What? Yeah, yeah we did that. That's not the issue"

"Ok?" Exasperated she turned to look at him. "So? What is the urgent problem"

"Ok, ok. Ever since you have gotten back, they're have been men following me and Jessica. And I know what you're going to say and yes, we told the police but they didn't do anything. And no I didn't tell Dean because he has been sent on an overseas mission. So..."

"So you want me to help?" He nodded. Now pacing she raked her hands through her hair. "Ok, have you seen what they look like?" Sam nodded taking out his phone and showing her pictures of them. Looking at the photos she felt a pit in her stomach, and it bloomed as she looked over the figures dressed in black suits and with dark shades covering their eyes. It grew even further when one of the images he showed her featured the guy who gave her the black eye.

"Sam this is bad"

"No shit, that's why- wait. Do you know these guys?" His voice rose as he looked down at her, she smiled wryly. "If you call being attacked by these douchbags as knowing, then yeah. I think I know them" He looked at her amused and she cleared her throat.

"Right. Well, I think you and Jessica should come to live in Avengers Tower with me... temporarily. I will deal with the Landlord, etc, but just until it is safe. Funny enough these guys are already my problem so I will deal with them, but you guys need to be safe"

At that moment after she had been spitballing and talking so much that she ran out of breath. She found herself missing moments like this. When Maria would be the one reassuring Y/n that everything would be ok, instead she had rarely spoken to her sister in the passing months and was quickly providing comfort for her stepbrother and sister. The same quick reassurance she used to receive from her older sister.

You know, before life became fucked up and said sister harboured her in a holding cell and did tests on her.

Blinking for a moment the young Hill sister, realised thankfully something good came out of her childhood, she had started to mirror how protective her older sister was.

Sam either didn't notice the onset of epiphany she was overcome with, instead, he swept her into a tight hug. Kissing her cheek and squeezing her tightly. "Thank you, thank you Y/n" He spoke softly, and with a matching smile Y/n chuckled and removed herself from his embrace.

"Right, well if there is nothing else.." Sam nodded "Yeah... I will go home and tell Jess the good news and we will hopefully be able to come by the tower later this afternoon?" He pondered, and she nodded. "Sure thing, I will see you later" She smiled and then ducked out of the alleyway and submerged herself back into the bustling crowd of New York City.

Little did she know the men in suits were watching, and although she wasn't actively thinking about them, she did find herself growing paranoid as she noticed a group of men following her, or walking in the same direction she was, following her through each turn and each park.

This paranoia led to her not watching where she was walking and she found herself bumping into someone, or rather tripping over someone.

Cursing under her breath she caught herself before she fell to the floor, with help of the man who grabbed her waist and huffed out a chuckle. "Sorry, I didn't mean to get in your way" He spoke when Y/n noticed him and noticed his walking cane and red glasses. She felt incredible guilt. "Shit... I'm so sorry- Matthew Murdock, right? You're the lawyer who spoke to me in the hospital" She spluttered whilst he smiled moving his hands away from her waist and to her arm to keep her steady. And with his other hand, he adjusted his grip on his guiding stick.

"Ms Hill" He grinned "I'm glad to hear you are out of the hospital and doing ok" His lips twisted into a smirk and she found herself very amused. "Yes... once again I'm sorry I wasn't looking where I was going" He chuckled. "Me either" He joked and Y/n paused biting down on her tongue to prevent herself from laughing.

Instead, he laughs and she looks at him strangely, whilst still feeling like she is being watched, she turns around and notices the group of men. It seems he noticed her worry, "Everything ok Ms Hill?" She turns back to him.

"Yes, and please call me Y/n" He smiles "Ok, then call me Matt" he removes his hand from holding her arm. And instead of parting ways, Y/n smiles looking over at the nearest café. "Ok Matt, how would you feel about grabbing some coffee?"

"I'd love to" He smiled and when Y/n turned he frowned as he noticed the men following her, and tried to ignore how her nerves were rattling her body and therefore his senses.

When they eventually sat down inside a café and Y/n ordered and paid for both of their drinks despite Matt's protests she sighed as she sat down passing him his coffee and flicked her gaze outside the café and sighed once more relieved when she noticed the men following her weren't there anymore.

"Thank you for the coffee" Matt spoke folding his guiding stick up and placing it inside his blazer pocket which Y/n found impressive. "It's the least I can do, considering I almost ploughed you down" He laughed and Y/n smiled.

She found it oddly therapeutic to have a normal conversation with someone normal about normal things, like how was your day.

And that's how she spent most of her day, talking to Matthew Murdock of all people and actually finding it enjoyable to not have to worry about infinity stones or scary men. Instead, she got to laugh and even learn some legal aspects and that she had a new friend.

And when she returned to the tower more than one person noticed her good mood and flushed cheeks.
