The five girls stood frozen outside the church, the heavy weight of uncertainty pressing down on them. The night air was thick with tension, the murmurs of the gathered crowd blending with the distant wail of sirens. Police officers moved in and out of the church, their expressions unreadable, their radios crackling with static.

But none of that mattered. Not compared to the fact that Ian Thomas' body—the one they saw hanging lifeless just hours ago—was gone.

"He wasn't moving," Aria said, her voice tight with panic. "And he was not breathing."

"Because he was dead," Emily said firmly.

"Is dead," Sophie corrected, arms crossed over her chest. "Not was, is."

"So unless we're saying Ian is suddenly a zombie, someone moved the body," Emily continued.

"Probably stuffed in A's trunk," Hanna muttered darkly.

"Or already on its way to a meat grinder," Emily added grimly.

Sophie shot her a look. "Okay, Em, seriously? You have got to stop watching those horror films."

Emily just shrugged. "I'm not wrong."

"You guys, A is probably watching us right now," Spencer whispered, eyes darting across the sea of onlookers.

"Any one of these people could be A," Hanna added, shifting uncomfortably under the weight of so many staring eyes.

"Half the town is here," Sophie murmured, glancing around. The crowd felt suffocating. Too many people. Too many eyes.

Before any of them could dwell on that unsettling thought, Garrett Reynolds approached, his expression unreadable.

"They want to see you girls down at the station," he said, voice firm, leaving no room for argument. "I'm here to drive you."

Aria hesitated, glancing over her shoulder. "I saw my parents earlier... they're going to want to know where we're going."

"They'll meet us there," Garrett replied. "Let's go."

The girls exchanged uneasy glances but followed him anyway. Hanna, quick as ever, rushed to the front seat before anyone could argue, leaving the other four to squeeze into the back.

Garrett opened the door, motioning for them to get in.

Sophie paused, eyeing him skeptically. "Aren't you supposed to be a cop? Isn't this, like, illegal?"
