Sophie stood by the sink in the bathroom the next day, washing her hands. The restroom was unusually quiet, except for the random girl beside her who was scrubbing at her hands a little too vigorously. Sophie glanced up at the mirror, her mind replaying the events of the past few days. She shook her head, trying to clear it as she dried her hands, then called out to the rest of the girls who were waiting outside.

"It's all clear," Sophie called, leaning against the doorframe as she opened it, stepping back to let the others file out of the stalls.

Aria was the first to step out, looking like she was about to burst with frustration. "We need to find a better place than this," she moaned, fanning herself dramatically with her hand. "Preferably somewhere with a fan, a good one."

"Good luck with that," Emily replied, shaking her head with a resigned sigh. "I swear we're gonna have to dig a tunnel under the school just to have any privacy."

"Not with those hands," Hanna quipped, glancing at Emily's palms before pulling a face. "You need some serious moisturizer, stat."

Emily rolled her eyes but didn't argue. "This letter isn't that bad, Em," Spencer said, handing Sophie the letter from the swim scout, her voice gentle, trying to offer a little reassurance.

Emily sighed dramatically, her shoulders slumping. "It's bad, Spencer. You don't understand. This isn't just a letter. It's my life hanging in the balance."

Sophie couldn't help but chime in, her voice softer but firm. "Won't your mom be impressed that the scout took the time to write it?" She tilted her head, giving Emily a supportive smile. "That's still a good sign."

Emily bit her lip, her eyes drifting toward the letter in her hands. "I guess," she muttered, not convinced.

Hanna, ever the practical one, pulled a bottle of moisturizer from her bag and handed it to Emily. "Here, use this," she said with a smirk, "It costs more than my purse, but I think it might just save your life."

Sophie laughed, but there was an edge of sadness in her tone. "Em, I get it. You need something more than this... Maybe the swim scout is a step in the right direction, but your mom? She needs a real reason to stay. Something that says, 'Rosewood's where you belong.'"

Emily's eyes softened, and she clutched the letter a little tighter. "Yeah. But that's not what this is. This letter's just a maybe." Her voice wavered as she looked at the others. "My mom needs to see something that says, 'We want her here. Don't take her to Texas.'"

Spencer nodded, but her expression was somber. "Em, there are other colleges. Other scouts. You'll have options."

"Exactly," Sophie added, her voice warm with reassurance. "It's not the end. There's always another chance."
