The look on Zack's face when we surprised him was honestly priceless. He turned to him mum in question, "You should thank Lola for this" she said softly with a smile on her face. Zack turned to me with a look in his eyes, a look of happiness, love and, of course, surprise.
"Well seriously it wasn't just me. I wouldn't have been able to do this without everyone's help. We just wanted to make you feel better". I said walking towards him. "Well you all certainly did that job well" He said with a grin. I reached down and hugged him tightly and we return the embrace with a firm grip.
"Well, I think we should get this party started, what about you guys?" Zack said when we finally pulled away from each other. Everyone cheered in response just before the music started playing. I grinned at Zack and wheeled him to the middle of the 'dance floor' and, tried, to dance with him - which was not particularly easy with him being in a wheelchair.
Soon after we eventually joined the rest of the gang a couple of minutes in, dancing our worries away to the beat of the music. It started out as a wonderful night and only hoped that as the night went on, it would get better.
"I can't believe you guys did this!" Zack yelled over the music whilst doing some weird arm movement since he could really move the rest of his body as the wheelchair constricted him. "Don't worry too hard about it Preppy, it might send you right back into the emergency room" Slater laughed while Zack sent him a glare. There was a moment of silence before we all erupted into laughter.
Seeing my best friends this happy brought a grin onto my face, I was happy that they were happy. Seeing them all laugh made me appreciate their acceptance into their group and hope that these guys would continue to be m friends.
We eventually broke off into our little groups; Slater and Jessie dancing very normally - if you call doing the sprinkler and the lawn-mower in shock movements that seemed to scare people off normal - and kelly was off talking to a couple of her other friends on the cheer team while Lisa was trying so hard to avoid Screech who seemed to pop up in all of her hiding places.
Me and Zack found our place in one of the more quieter corners of the room. Zack was still in his wheelchair while I was seated on one of the dining room chairs right next to the living room widow. "Thanks a lot for organising this Lola, it means a lot to me" Zack whispered. I was very aware of his arm that was placed right above my knee.
I turned from the party scene in front of me and face the beautifully sculptured face of Zack Morris. "It really was not problem, and if it wasn't for the others, it probably would be a lot lamer and a lot more decorated than this place" I laughed nervously. I don't know why I was nervous. Maybe I was so focused on the eruption of butterflies in my stomach or the fact that Zack and I were finally getting a moment of privacy and I didn't want to totally mess it up.
Zack moved his arm to the back of my chair and pulled my body closer to his. "Zack please be careful, I don't need you to be back in that hospital room" I whispered, my eyes solely focused on his face, mainly eyes. "Don't worry" He whispered back with that annoying, yet charming smirk on his face, "I'll be careful, as long as I get a kiss for being a good boy". With that he leaned closer to my face. I could feel his breathed wash over my face before a bubbling started in my belly and before I knew it, I burst into a fit of laughter.
