Diagon Alley

I open my eyes to see a man kneeling over me. It’s The Leaky Cauldron’s bartender, Tom.

“You fell out of the fireplace and hit your head.” He explains. “Are you OK?”

“Yeah.” I reply, “I’ve faced worse.”

Tom leads me to the back and taps a brick. The wall opens into Diagon Alley. I wave goodbye to Tom and step through. I think for a minute about where to go first and decide on where to go first. I decide on Madan Malkin’s to get my robes. But before I go 3 paces, someone barrels into me saying

“Tobias! Tobias, you made it!”

Whoever it is releases me and I smile. It’s my best friend Shawn Kethran.

“Hi Shawn.” I say.

Shawn wraps his arm around me and says “Didn’t think you’d make it. I’ve been waiting for you.”

“I was going to get my robes.” I tell him.

“Me too. Let’s go.”

He leads the way and I grin. It’s hard to not like him. He’s a tall, well-built, 11 year old like me, with short, dark hair and brown eyes. We walk into Madam Malkin’s and tell her what we need. As she’s fitting our robes, Shawn is telling me about his summer. From what I can tell he, had a much better one than me.

“There.” Says Madam Malkin, “You 2 are all done.”

Shawn and I thank her and leave. He leaves to get his owl and I decide to go to Flourish and Blotts to get my books. I walked up and down the shelves trying to find what I needed. I turned down the next isle and bumped into someone

“I’m sorry.” I say and I offer my hand to help them up. The person that bumped into me was a girl dressed in muggle clothing.

“Thanks.” She says.

She had a very bossy sounding voice that did not sound thankful at all. She bent down to pick up her books, and I don’t know why, but I just stared at her. She had brown eyes, bushy brown hair and rather large front teeth. When she realized I was still there, she scowled at me, turned and left.

After I got my books, I met back up with Shawn. We had gotten everything except for our wands, so we went to Ollivander’s. We walked into the shop and he greeted us.

“Hello Mr. Lunderson, Mr. Kethran. How are you? Who wants to go first?”

I step forward. He takes out a silver tape measure and began to measure my arm.

“All right. Try this one. Maple and Dragon Heartstring.”

I take it but he pulls it right out of my hand.

“No, no. Here. Elm and Unicorn hair. No maybe this one. Beechwood and Phoenix Feather. Not that one either. Here. Blackthorn and Dragon Heartstring.”

I took that wand and at once, my fingers felt warm. I pointed the wand and small fireworks burst from the end.

“Excellent!” Cried Ollivander. “Bravo! But interesting. The dragon whose heartstring is in this wand, he also supplied your aunt with her wand core.”

I look at him. My wand and her wand are related? But I don’t mention it. I thank him and leave while Shawn gets his. He gets an Ash and Phoenix feather one. Then, just like that, the day’s over. I had to get home before dark or she would get mad.

“See you in a month” Shawn says.

“See you.” I say. Then, I step into the fireplace and disappear.
