The holiday is over, and I am back at Hogwarts. Man, am I glad to be back. 2 weeks cooped up alone with her is enough to drive anyone mad. I walk up to the common room, about to head to my dorm, when out of nowhere, Hermione comes up and starts bombarding me with questions.

“Whoa.” I say, “ I just got back and it’s like you’re using Oppugno on me. What are you going on about?”

“You know perfectly well what’s going on”

When I give a quizzical look, she yells, “Bellatrix Lestrange! You know about her already! You two are related! Why’d you ask me if you knew her? And then you hid it from me!”

I glance around the common room to make sure we’re alone before I say, “Look, I’m not proud to be related to her. I’d give anything to not be her nephew. I don’t want to be her nephew. But I am. I’ve kept it a secret for this long, can’t you just keep it quiet? I don’t want anyone finding out.”

Hermione looks at me, crosses her arms, and then says, “Fine, but how do I know you’re not going to start throwing around insults like one of those Slytherins?”

I reply, “Look, I’m not comfortable calling anyone names. I don’t believe in blood purity and all that stuff. And I’d never call you or anyone else a…….”

“A what exactly?”

“A… a mudblood.” I say, almost in a whisper.

“What’s that?”

I’m took by surprise. Hermione, who knows everything, doesn’t know this?

“A mudblood is a foul name for muggle-borns like you. It means dirty blood.”

Hermione looks offended.

“But I wasn’t calling you one!” I say quickly, “I was just explaining what the word meant. Besides, the people who believe in blood purity are the ones who use that term. I don’t.”

Hermione tilts her head slightly and says, “So you don’t think that of me?”

“NO! I think it doesn’t matter what type of blood you’ve got. I mean, you can do magic. You’re a muggle and you’re the best student here!”

I told her all this because it’s true but, I wasn’t prepared for her reaction. She was just staring at me, and then she leaned forward and kissed me on my left cheek. Her lips rested there for a few seconds, and then she broke away, turned and said,

“Next time you meet her, try a different approach.”

Then she left leaving me standing there like I’d just been frozen.
