Tobias's First Year at Hogwarts

The Journal

I went to the dorm very early that night, but I couldn’t fall asleep. I just lay spread-eagled on my bed. Why did I tell? I know it was the right thing to do, but now the secrets out. Out! Oh well, Dumbledore said he wouldn’t tell anyone, and if there’s anyone I can trust, it’s him.

I check my watch. It’s only 6:30. I get out of bed, open my trunk at the end of my bed, and take out a book. She tried to hide it from me, but I snuck into her room and stole it back. I turn it over in my hands, I’ve never been able to examine it because I us frightened she would catch me. It is a small, purple book, with gold embroidered designs on it. The Lunderson family crest is painted on the front with the family motto: Ecce Emendatio Semper, which means Always Pure Blood. I wouldn’t have taken it, but I saw a picture of one of my brothers holding it. I open the book for the first time. The name Jason Erick Lunderson is written on the first page. He was my 2nd eldest brother. She says that he died in a broom accident. I turn the page, and read the entry,

“My new baby brother was born today. 4th boy in the family. Father’s very proud. They have decided to name him Tobias Barodius Lunderson. Father says that he wants Tobias middle name to be his.”

I stare at the page. I have my father’s name? Barodius was his name. She never told me that. I flip ahead a few pages. The next entry is written a bit shakily and there are small round water stains on it. I read it. This one says,

“Father and mother passed today. They say it was an accident, but I know what happened. It was murder. Father’s will states that if he and mom pass, Tobias must go live with the eldest. But he can’t. Gavin and Sam are in ST. Mungo’s I don’t know what happened to them. I must now take care of Tobias. He is only 1, but I have to try. If I fail, Tobias must go live with Bellatrix Lestrange, who will be his new guardian. I must not let that happen.”

At the end of the entry, I stop to think. What happened to Jason is I now live with her? There’re no more writing in the diary. I turn a few more pages just to make sure and a picture and a newspaper clipping fall out. I look at the picture. It’s my family, my dad, my mom, and 3 brothers. The newspaper clipping is old. The date states it was printed almost 10 years ago. It’s about my parents! It says,

“Mr. and Mrs. Lunderson were found dead in their manor yesterday morning. According to their son, they passed of old age. The first and third oldest brothers were also found. Alive, but mentally damaged. Seeing their parents must have drove them crazy. They are currently being treated in ST. Mungo’s.”

I fold up the newspaper clipping, put it and the picture back in the book, lay back in bed and wonder what to make out of it all.
