When she made it to her dorm, Annie was surprised to find Tom already waiting for her with food.

Of course he knew I was on my way... his telepathic gift is useful at times, like now! She told herself.
His gift as they called it wasn't always something she liked. It was more like a curse for her, it meant that all her thoughts were scrutinized and that she had to lift a magic wall to protect her thoughts. It was a pain must of the times.

The place was cold, like the walls the floor was made out of rocs. The only thing that made it a room were the two beds facing each other and a drawer meant to keep their clothes dry.

Having no table, she sat on the floor facing him supporting her back on the bed. His eyes were greyish like every time he exerted himself physically or mentally. Potions could heal the body and restore the host energy, but it couldn't restore his personality or his mental health.
The encounter with the higher ups was rash. She told herself.

"Let's say that now that they are convinced that you are the one from the prophecy, they are in a hurry. I had to calm them down." He told Annie pushing a plate to her. Annie looked at the food with concern.

glue with vegetables. She told herself making a face of disgust.

"It's elvish food mixed with human food. The glue is actually filled with proteins and magical ingredients meant to restore your body."

"Can you stop reading my mind! Please I just can't cast a protective spell now." Annie told him with a stern voice.

Finally gathering her strength, she took a bite. It wasn't bad as she first believed it would. Besides the texture. It was eatable. Her stomach grounded making her laugh. Tom's eyes glittered while looking at her, but Annie was too busy having her share to notice.

Tom's posture relaxed, his legs were parted. One made contact with Annie's leg while the other was bent enough to let his elbow rest on it.
"Like I was saying," he began after a while. "It took a lot of convincing to make them slow their plans. While you train, they will gather their allies, spread the word and train them. It will give you enough time to prepare yourself. We got until February to train you." He ended, his voice trailing down.

Annie's legs curled close to her body, slightly pushing Tom's leg. The plate in her hands crushed. Luckily, the plate was empty, but the remains left a stain on her clothes. Tom quickly grabbed the plate closing the gape between them. Annie tried to clean herself, but she soon abandoned.

"It just gives us three months! How am I supposed to get good enough to kick their arses and gain a pass to the other side?" Annie gulped.

"Everyone, including the allies from this side are in a hurry to get things done. I don't know how to make you understand. They had to leave their families just to keep their memories intact like you did. Worse, they know that for many of them going back into human land means giving away their powers, becoming humans." Annie's body was shaking overwhelmed by stress. Tom got a cover over her, when he learned, she pulled his hand inviting him to sit close to her. With a nod, he sat next to her.

"The 3/4 of the magical population is turned into to humans. Only those showing above average abilities are kept to protect the council. They are enslaved in a manner since they work for unreasonable hours and they have arranged marriages in hopes to keep their genes alive and serve for generations to come."

Annie nodded looking at the moisture on the rocky wall. "Then again, not only they live in dire conditions, they are hunted by Davon's mens." That much she knew. After all, she was hunted herself by that man only because she was her parent's daughter.
