Annie pressed her forehead to the cold glass and watched the trees pass by at high speed in a blur, just like her thoughts. Everything was happening so fast. For the first time in her 17 and a half years of existence, she had to make a choice, and now, sitting in this car, she could only hope that she made the right one.

Her life had taken a turn, while others had to choose which subject to study first in preparation for semester exams, she had to choose between a possible death or the oblivion of her memories, in the end she made a choice. She could die, but she chose it anyway.

For once, far away from her mother, she was sure it was her own choice, her mother's oblivion potion had diluted in her system and she was finally recovering her memories and her powers. It was exciting and scary at the same time. Her emotions were overwhelming keeping her awake though she shouldn't.

She had performed  intensive magic earlier when they were attacked in the forest and seen the informant die. She needed rest, but how was she supposed to when had so many questions in her head? She needed answers and running away was the only way to get answers since her mother wouldn't.

Her mother couldn't be trusted. She went into great lengths to hide her true self even from her for five years, ripping away her memories and altering them to an extent where she couldn't tell the difference between reality and fiction. Her mother had no respect or regard for her wellbeing and had endangered her sanity countless times just to keep the illusion of being human. But Annie wasn't human. She learned it the hard way. Her mother was all about pretences and Annie was a stain in her perfect family since her supernatural traits proved to be too strong to eradicate.

That senseless woman had literally burned her brain cells with her coven's magic over the years just to mold her the way she wanted her to be. If Annie's wolf hadn't been so strong, she was sure she would have ended up in a vegetative state, lying on a forgotten bed, in a forgotten institution. Or perhaps, she would have been put down? No, her mother was incapable of love and acceptance wasn't in her nature. Annie was something her mother dread.

Tom opened the window, letting a breeze into the car. This trip wasn't like the first time they shared. That day when her mother had sent her to Uni to the other side of the country with no money and only her clothes and a box filled with her dee belongings, her heart was broken. She wanted to give her future up and raise her siblings giving them the love she lacked. Tom had changed that by befriending her and teaching her how to love herself even though he was a pain most of the time. Tom had to cope with a an abusive heartless father, but he hadn't cared to share much else. He was this torching fire no one would get too close, but she knew that he wouldn't burn her. In fact he never had, he had looked out for her instead.
