"Mommy, What are we doing?" Ava asked As we walked through the mall. "We are buying things for Leo, And auntie Rose." "I miss auntie rose mommy" I sighed and picked her up. "I miss her too sweet pea" We headed to a store that sold graphic t-shirts and hats. "Hello welcome, Is there anything I can help you with?" The sweet lady at the front asked. "No thank you" I smiled and started looking around. "Mommy I want to help too" I put her down and held her hand. "Stay close to me okay stinky."
"Okay mommy" as we looked around the store we didn't really find anything interesting. Me and Ava really spent our time playing around and causing chaos around us. "Hello sir welcome is there anything I can help you with today?". "Yes there is, I'm looking for my wife She came in here with my daughter." I heard him loud and clear and I reacted quickly not stopping to think. I picked up Ava and made my way out of the store before they could search for me.
"Mommy what's wrong?" I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. "Mommies fine sweetheart, We have to go home back to Leo." "But we didn't get LeLe's gift." She frowned with tears in her eyes. "I know sweetheart we will look tomorrow." "No! I wanna look now!" She said throwing a tantrum. I tried to continue my journey to the car "Ava stop, we will look tomorrow I promise." I said putting her down and grabbing her hand. "You didn't think you could run forever did you becca?" His voice made my skin crawl.
"Mommy who's this?" He looked at Ava and smiled creepy. "I'm your daddy sweetly." Ava frowned "you aren't my daddy, I don't have a daddy I have two mommies." He frowned "Why don't you tell her becca." I picked up Ava and walked away. I heard a click "Move again and I'll shoot." Tears fell from my eyes. Ava screamed and started crying "Mommy!". He walked over to us, "You will come back home to me." He said yanking my hair, I sobbed "Let me go!" He put the gun up to my head. I flinched "P-please d-don't" I pleaded.
"After we talk first, I've missed you so much." Ava kicked him in the face (hard enough) and I took off not looking back. I hurried and put Ava in her car seat strapping her in and shut the door. As soon as I reached for my door my hair was yanked back. "You think I'm gonna let you run away from me again." "LET ME GO!" I screamed sobbing, "No you stupid bitch!" He said slapping me. I cried and tried to block his hits, He punched and kicked my ribs over and over.
"HEY!" one of the security guards yelled he looked back at him and smirked cocking his gun back and shooting at the man. He ran off while I tried to keep my eyes open. "Dispatch! We need back up now. Officer down, send two EMTs STAT!".
I heard as my vision got blurry.
2 hours later
I heard a monitor going off, I opened my eyes but I was blinded by the bright light. I winced "baby??" I heard Leo say. I felt it all, It felt like his hands were still on me burning my skin. Tears fell from my eyes and my heart rate monitor started beeping fast. Leo grabbed my hand "Baby I'm here" She said softly. I tried to sit up and Leo shook her head. "It will hurt." I tried to speak but nothing came out. She picked up my water and placed the straw to my lips.
After finishing my water I tried to get the courage to speak. "He was there.." Leo looked at me with nothing but concern and love. "He... he did this to me." I said trying not to cry, "I did everything in my power to get away so why." I sobbed Leo held me in her and let me cry in her shirt. "We are gonna have to move again" she said sighing. "I'm sorry" I said sadly. "Why baby, you have nothing to be sorry for." "I dragged you into my fucked up life, And now my crazy and abusive ex boyfriend is out there trying to look for me."
She shook her head, "I'm here for all of it, I knew what I was getting myself into when I asked you to be my girlfriend."
"Why do you still want to be with me if I'm just bringing you into my messy life." "I'm here to help you baby, You aren't alone. I don't want you to doubt my love for you you are okay. We are okay, Nothing is gonna break our family apart." She hugged me and I hugged her back taking in her scent. It calmed me down but I didn't wanna let go of her ever.
A knock on the door made us pull away. "Come in" Leo said for me. "Hi I'm Dr.Bernard, This is nurse Judy I'm Here to talk with you while the nurse give you some pain medication." I nodded " You don't have any fractured ribs Thankfully but you will be in a bit of pain for a few days, We are gonna prescribe you with some antibiotics And ibuprofen. The antibiotics will help with the swelling and the ibuprofen is for any pain you feel." I nodded taking in everything being said to me.
"You will need to be on bed rest for a few, And your check up back here with me will be two weeks after you've gotten off bed rest." "How long will she need to be on bed rest?" Leo asked looking at me then the doctor "For just a week for extra precautions." She nodded "Any questions?" I shook my head "Alright you will be discharged tomorrow I'll send a nurse in here to collect any other information you may want to share." We nodded and they left.
"How long has Ava been sleep" I asked looking at my beautiful daughter. "She's been sleep ever since you got transferred in here." I sighed "I'm sorry again." Leo looked at me and shook her head "Hush and rest."
