( tw: mentions of abuse, panic attack, depression )

you were flipping through stations on the television, trying to find a good movie for you and tammy to watch. lou was working late at the bar and tammy insisted on inviting to the annual girl's movie night. "i don't have any ideas what i'm looking for," you call out to tammy who was making drinks in the kitchen. rose said she'd be down after she finished the chapter of the book she was now obsessed with. "i don't know either," tammy said cheerfully. you could practically hear the smile on her face. "maybe something with ryan reynolds in it! or one of those handsome types.." you leaned back in the couch, far enough so you could lock eyes with tammy. she bite her lip and laughed. "stop teasing me, (y/n)!" you smiled before leaning forwards again. you subconsciously shoved a handful of popcorn in your mouth as you felt your body melt into the fuzzy blanket that was covering you. the combination of your soft pajamas and the blanket made you feel so safe and secure. (y/c/h) was messily tied up in a updo. something you wouldn't describe as a bun, but not anything else. it was just up. there was a loud knock at the door. "ah that's probably my package," tammy said from the kitchen. "i've got it," you chimed, putting another handful of popcorn in your mouth. you know you shouldn't had, but it was too irresistible. you walk towards the front door, the baggy fabric getting caught between your moving legs. you opened the door and froze.

"my baby!" she practically yelped, moving swiftly towards you with open arms. you took a big step back. "m-mother?" you questioned, your eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "well, i see some things don't change," your mother chirped, noticing your mouthful of popcorn. you quickly swallowed it before looking between your parents. "don't be such a stranger darling!" your mother tried again. "i-i actually am not comfortable with hugs anymore," you stated. "oh," your mother whispered, dusting her coat. "i suppose that's reasonable after what happened to you." you felt your heart skip a beat. "you know about that?" your mother laughed. "well of course i do, darling. they called us. that's when we knew we had to come and save you." you frowned. "save me?" your mother scoffed at you. "yes, did that boy hurt your hearing too? go on now, go gather your belongings." your mother tried walking further into the house but you stopped her. "i'm not going anywhere with you," you rebuke. "i don't need any saving from the people who abused me my entire life." your mother had the most appalled look upon her face. "i beg your pardon!" she practically screeched causing you flinched. bad mistake. "stop being so difficult, (y/n)." your father finally spoke. "do you know how long it took us to find you? we had to talk to so many people, not to mention the prices of gas.." you heard footsteps behind you. "(y/n)? who is it?" tammy appeared next to you, her smile fading. you looked at tammy and with that one look she knew, something was wrong. "aren't you going to introduce us to your friend, dear?" your mother asked. "t-tammy these are my parents. they want to take me back with them." tammy looked at you shocked. you couldn't keep looking at any of them, your eyes drifted down to the floor in defeat, tears growing. "i'm sorry," tammy began, "but (y/n) is a grown woman and she can make her own decisions. and it's abundantly clear she doesn't want to go anywhere with you, so i suggest that you both leave before i call the authorities." your gaze drifted back up to your parents. anger plagued their faces.

"i'm sorry!" you screamed placing your hands in front of your face for protection. "i won't do it again, i swear!" tears streamed down your cheeks, the left side was marked with a red handprint. "you are far too old to still be wetting the bed," your father seethed. "i-i didn't mean to," you sobbed. "it was an accident, i'm sorry! pl-please stop." you couldn't talk without your voice breaking. you looked up at your father, silently pleading for his mercy. his eyebrows were furrowed, his lips in a strong frown, sweat trickled down his forehead. his saw red. he didn't say anything, his grip on the belt only tightened as he threw it down upon you.

"we will be back, with the proper paperwork next time," your mother said to tammy. she turned to you, "i suggest you start packing, you won't be here any longer. i hope you had a fun stay, but you're coming back home." she leaned in closer to you, causing you to tense up. you were prepared for any impact. "maybe lay off the popcorn too, you're looking a little more round than usual." she smiled before backing away from you. she turned to your father. "let's go, this place's air is already affecting my long-term health." you watched them walk away and into a cab. "(y/n)," tammy said, bringing you back to your thoughts. "are you okay?" she inquired. tears began to fall from your eyes after every blink you took. "honey," tammy sincerely said. you began to hyperventilate. "i-i can't go back," you said, gasping for breath. "(y/n)," tammy said sternly, trying to keep you in the present. "you need to breathe, you won't go back. you're an adult. they can't do anything to bring you back." you tried taking deep breaths, small breaths, any type of air, but it wouldn't work. "t-the paperwork," you stuttered. "t-they can't tak-take me back! i-i won't sur-survive." everything started getting fuzzy and sounds starting sounding disorientated. you felt a warm pair of hands guiding you down to the ground. "sit... you don't look too well... breathe..." you closed your eyes as you slowly rocked yourself. you were shaking your head. a hand touched yours, which at first you flinched at, but then you grabbed onto it. the hand turned into a hug. tammy was holding you in her arms as you sobbed, closing her eyes as you let out muffled screams.

after about fifteen minutes, you started to stop crying and your breathing returned to normal. "another one?" you raspily asked tammy. she nodded her head. she was still holding you against her body, she knew you needed it. you relaxed your tense body into hers. "i-i'm so sorry," you said with a small sniffle. "don't apologize for anything, honey." you rested your head against tammy's arm. "if you don't mind me asking," tammy began, "but that was an extreme reaction to your parents. what's the story with that?" you swallowed hard as you took a deep breath. "it's dark," you whispered. "i figured as much," tammy said with a small chuckle, earning a small smile from you. "my parents and i have not had the best relationship. ever since i was a little girl, it was constant critiquing and punishment. i would be starved, hit with a belt, beaten, and verbally degraded. it was a really difficult time for me. i looked for anyone i could to help me get out of that situation, and that's how i met my ex. they liked him for the most part, that's why they left me alone. but apparently the police called them after my attack and they tracked me down. they don't approve of the people i chose to love." you looked up at tammy, who you could tell was fighting something inside. it could be anger, fear, sadness.. but instead she just looked down at you and squeezed you tighter. "you did not deserve any of this. you are so incredibly brave, darling," she soothed you. "my poor girl can never catch a break," she said quietly as you closed your eyes. "i-i just want everything to be okay, just for a minute. i'm so tired," you vulnerably state. the door opens from behind you. "what the fuck did i miss now?" the irish accent chimed in.
