A month after meeting with Hayward and Mayor DeAngel, Sif, Thor, Melody and I all helped Loki prepare to give the big speech to the newly settled survivors of New York. Loki paces the length of the dressing room, running lines of the speech to himself while the rest of us get comfy.
"I can't believe they put gourmet nut mix in here! And fancy sparkling water?" Melody beamed as she stared at the bubbles in her glass.
"Melody, you have drunk thousand-dollar wine at Morbius castle and you're impressed by gourmet nut mix?" I chuckled as I sat on a chair. I was fiddling with my hair. I had just had it cut so instead of being down halfway down my back, my hair was now shoulder length. And no I didn't go to the hairdresser, Sif cut it.
"Emily, you should know that I am a girl of simple taste," Melody flicked her glass so the bubbles came off the side "And one that is easily entertained,"
"Yeah, we all know," Thor sat on the floor, sharpening his sword. He looks at Loki, who is mumbling to himself "Remind me again why Loki is the one giving the speech and not the mayor?"
"It was agreed it will go over smoother if the survivors are addressed by another survivor... especially a high-profile one," Sif gestures to Loki, who pauses and glances at his notecards "It was Hayward's idea. Now that the city is being reopened, they need a big public figure to soothe any lingering fear,"
"So, they picked Loki and not you?"
"According to the records, I was out of town when the virus hit and plus, I hate public speaking," Sif flicked her hair over her shoulder, "The public thinks Loki survived the 'incident'. therefore he is the perfect person to assure everyone it's safe to come back,"
"Yeah well, if I was some Average Joe and I thought my city had been destroyed by some kind of insanity virus, I don't think Loki could convince me to come back," Thor sulked in his chair.
"Are you claiming that you are immune to Loki's charms, Thor?" Melody grinned. Thor rolled his eyes.
"You don't see me throwing myself at him,"
"I'd wager this 'Average Joe' is more resilient than you think, Thor," Sif sighed, watching Loki out the corner of her eye "Besides, you know New Yorkers, They'd never abandon their city,"
"Hell yeah, we wouldn't!" Melody cheered "I love this city,"

Loki is still pacing and rehearsing his speech. Sif looked at me and subtly nodded at him with her chin. Taking the hint, I get up and join him.
"You know, you're gonna wear a hole in that floor," I grab Loki by his elbow.
"Ha... I..." Loki licked his lips, glancing at the cards again.
"Hang on. Are you, Loki Odinson, nervous?"
"I wouldn't call it nervous," Loki put his cards in his jacket pocket "I really have to sell this. I have to convince the people of New York that the threat is gone," Loki ran his hands over his hair, I noticed his tie was a little crooked and the corners of his eyes were pinched. I press my palms against Loki's chest and lean in to give him a kiss. When I pull away a moment later, he looks a little dazed.
"A little something to give you strength," I whispered.
"Well, what do you know? I feel more confident already," Loki grinned at me, pulling me closer. I give him a smile and straightened his tie and lapels before shepherding him towards the door.
"You got this, darling,"
"Make sure to smile! Show off that dimple!" Melody raised her glass before downing the liquid.
"Don't do that annoying thing you do. You know the one. the annoying one," Thor sheathed his sword.
"Also be sure to look into the camera. Eye contact does wonders,"
"I'll be sure to take all of those suggestions into account," Loki rolled his eyes "You know this is not my first time addressing the public? I think I know what I am doing,"
"That will be a first," Thor mumbled. I elbowed him.
"Ignore him. Is Frigga coming?" I asked, grabbing my phone from my bag. I plan on taking a few photos of Loki's big moment.
"I imagine she will be in the audience with the others," Sif arms, dropped to her side.
"She deffo wouldn't miss this. I think she's coming with the mayor," Melody clapped.
"Still feels weird to me. Us out like this, meeting with the mayor, holding fancy press conferences," Thor shivered.
"Long way from the Thunder den," I shoulder bump him as I stand next to him.
"Maybe too far", Thor muttered softly.
