I was pulled back into the alleyway by the wrist. We stopped under the stairs and the man took out a device. After doing something with it that I couldn't see, he pointed it upwards and suddenly the ladder came down quickly and silently. He let go of my wrist and began to climb, telling me to follow him. We climbed the stairs until around the third floor, and then I watched as the man stood in front of a blank wall, pulled out another object, and suddenly he put his fingers in a crack, and pulled. A hidden door slid aside revealing a dim lit room. Turning back to me he took my wrist and pulled me in.
It took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the darkness, but when they did I was greeted with a unique room. The lighting was dull, and everything seemed greenish. To my left was a wall with boards covering up a hole, and to my right was the actual room. There was a couch in the middle of it with a table with foldable chairs to the left of it. In front of it was a TV. This was about all I could observe besides a little open room with an arcade machine in it before the man continued to pull me along through it. He almost threw me on the couch and told me to wait.
Meanwhile he ran up the indoor stairs behind me and disappeared into the next level. I grabbed my shaking hand and began to look around a little more. To the very right was another open room with a full on car in it, covered in graffiti. A line of eight skateboards were hanging above the entrance. It was almost a full on garage. I turned my gaze back to the dark TV and tried to distract myself when suddenly I heard a noise from the door in front of me and it swung open. Another man wearing a black jacket with dirty blonde hair came walking out. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me. I awkwardly stood up and he just stood there completely confused.
"Who the heck are you and what are you doing here?" He demanded. In that second the man from before came back down. "Hyunjin! Who the heck is this!?"
"Aish calm down, she said something about the police." He answered. I looked back at him and noticed someone else coming down. It was one of the men I had seen last night. By now I was completely confused and wondered how many there were. The man who had taken me in, apparently Hyunjin, shared a few words with the other on the stairs, and then passed me into the room. "Come on Jisung. Chan'll interrogate her." The door then closed and I was left alone with 'Chan'. Silence continued. Chan came down from the stairs and stood in front of me.
"What did you want?" He asked. I paused awkwardly.
"Is your... do you have... er... a warehouse... I mean... have stuff in a warehouse on, um, Collide Street?" Good job Hana, what a great way to ask that question. I looked back at Chan, but couldn't read his face.
"Why are you asking about it?"
"I overheard a conversation at the police office...er... station.. and they said they suspected you being there... they said they'll send a squad over at lunch. I don't know if you actually-" I was interrupted quickly.
"Stay here, and don't leave." He demanded and disappeared into the room with Jisung and Hyunjin. A minute later Jisung came running out with a phone to his ear followed by Hyunjin who ran up the stairs. He soon returned with firearms in his hands and they disappeared into the garage thing. Then Chan emerged and spoke.
"Stay in this room, and don't go anywhere else. Don't touch anything. We'll be back later. For now, stay quiet." I nodded, scared, and watched as he entered the car with the other two. He turned it on and slowly it disappeared into the floor, going down to the street. After a while the car noises died away and I was left in complete silence. It was then I happened to notice a red blinking light in the corner of the room, and when I looked at it more carefully, realized it was a camera. Great. I was trapped in an unknown room under supervision, waiting for who knows how long for the most prominent gang in the city to return and decide my fate. I had never felt so at ease in my life.
If I wasn't under surveillance I definitely would have snooped around for no good reason, but since I was, I sat uncomfortably on the couch, nervous to even move. Thankfully they didn't take too long, and in only half an hour the car came peeping back into the garage and then began the unloading. Not one, not two, but eight men exited the car, their hands full of devices and things I couldn't even try to name. I was shocked all of this could fit in that one car, but what could I expect? I sat even stiller as they began running upstairs, Chan shouting orders.
"Put them in that room for now! Changbin get those please... also no leaving this house until we're sure the police have quieted down. Jeongin.." he turned to the youngest who had saved me the first night. "Please escort her out." We awkwardly exchanged glances.
"I- I'll go.." I started to say.
"Yeah- I'll tell you where.." I did already know where the door was, but Jeongin was set on taking me the few steps there probably because his leader had told him, so soon he was sliding the door open for me. I looked back at the chaotic inside and sighed. I was given an innocent look. "Do you live nearby..?" He asked.
"Yeah, I guess. An apartment... heh, if you could even consider it an apartment." I winced at the idea of returning to my "home". I had been living there for quite some time now, but that didn't mean I was used to the horridness of it. Jeongin seemed to understand but was too awkward to comfort me. Instead he said,
"I'm sorry.. you know if you find any more information from the police against us you can come back. Just go into the store below and I'm sure one of us will be there. I don't want you to be cooped up in your apartment-"
"Oh.. yeah." I interrupted. "I'll see if I can find anything. Thanks." I had to stop him from talking because if he continued the innocence radiating off of him would have killed me. "I'll go now. Good luck with the police."
And just like that I was back in the alleyway hesitantly walking home.
