Chapter Three
I wasn't able to concentrate on the road because of his arms around me. It's not a big deal naman, Courtney. At isa pa, mabango siya. Shit!
I thanked him without looking in his face and I immediately entered the repair shop.
"Isa lang, Tito kaya nga kaagad kong pinaayos 'to." I checked the tire and it's really looking good.
I smiled. "He's doing quite better,
Tito. I was at the entrance when he called me back at nagpahabol pa talaga ng ulam. No one was outside. Of course, Courtney. Did you really expect Silvius to wait for you?
I sighed. Good thing tito installed some lights on this bike. My distant family cares for us a lot. Some are sincere but some looked down on us because we're pitiful. We love him and there's nothing he should be sorry for. Someday I know that our fate will change. Hindi kami mananatiling ganito. Mark my words.
A honk woke me up from my reverie.
"Hey! Buti naabutan kita. I was waiting for you kanina pa but nagtagal ka kaya umuwi muna ako para magbihis," he said when he faced me.
"Thank you, Silvius. I really appreciate your kindness earlier."
"Call me Vios, Courtney and you're welcome. Anyway, ihahatid na kita."
My eyes widened. Nahihibang na ba siya? Gabi na kaya!
"No! You don't have to. It's too dangerous, V-vios.
His eyes looked at me pleadingly. His lips pursed. He looks like a freaking puppy. Anong problema nito?
"Mas delikado kung ikaw lang mag-isa, Courtney. Gabi na at baka may makasalubong kang masamang loob sa daan. And you're only riding a bike, it's dangerous for you too!"
I let him tag along in the end. Ako ang nauna and he's tailing me para may ilaw ako. My bike has a light too but mas maliwanag ang ilaw ng scooter niya.
When we arrived, kaagad kong nakita si daddy at Careen na nakaupo sa veranda. The table is already set and it looks like they're about to have dinner. I sighed. They shouldn't have waited for me.
"I'm sorry I'm late, Dad. Natagalan ako sa talyer."
His attention wasn't fixated on me but on the thing or should I say person behind me.
Silvius Vanderbilt was standing outside our wooden fence.
