"El, wait up!" Mike yelled, running after the curly-haired girl. She didn't even slow down as she made her way toward a park with a lumberjack statue in the middle. She didn't even know where she was going but she was so determined to be anywhere but near people. Eventually, Mike caught up to her and stood in front of her, holding his arms out and stopping her at her shoulders. She looked down, seething.
"Let go," she said simply.
"El, look at me, okay? Look up at me. We need to talk about this," he said. She softened as he placed his hand on her cheek, and she looked up at him with pleading eyes.
"This is why I'm here, Mike. I need to find It. Please let me go," she said, quietly but sternly. The other Hawkins kids caught up, walking at a normal pace. Lucas came up next to the two lovebirds and placed his hand on Mike's shoulder.
"Hey, man. Let's just go. You heard what they said; It won't show for 27 years, there's no point trying to look," he said. Mike said nothing, he just looked at El. She also was silent.
"Yeah, and I'm not trudging through literal shit to find a clown. We have enough of that back home. Come on, Dustin, back me up here," Max said, nudging Dustin's arm. He sucked in air through his teeth and shrugged.
"I dunno, you guys. Maybe El is right. I mean who are we to back down from a challenge? She killed a literal Demogorgon. A DEMOGORGON! We didn't even know those were real until last year. If the upside down exists and we can enter it through the rips in time and space, maybe Its gate is in the sewer. I mean come on, it's worth a shot," he explained. He threw up his hands in defense when he looked at Max who was glaring at him. "that's just my opinion though."
"Okay, fine. We have two psychos on our team. Will? What about you? After what you went through, I bet you don't want to press your luck again," she said, gesturing to the silent partner. He shifted uncomfortably on his feet and looked at Mike, who was looking back at him awaiting an answer. Right now, the odds were 3-2 on staying or going. It was up to him to finalize it or be the need for a tiebreaker. He sighed.
"I don't know, you guys. The others really didn't seem like they thought we could find It. And besides -- the Demogorgon found us. Actually, it found me. That was completely random. This would be our choice to get ourselves into danger. I see why we should at least try but obviously, we can all see why it's a bad idea," he said.
3-1-2.
"Fine, what if El and I go, and the rest of you cowards stay back and twiddle your stupid, stumpy thumbs?" Dustin said, now getting impatient. Various responses were thrown back at him in anger.
"Hey, no name-calling! That's not fair," Mike said, finally dropping his hands from El.
"All I'm saying is that it's worth a shot. We go in and find nothing, fine. Then there's nothing we can do and we go home. But if we find It? Imagine! How hard can a stupid clown be anyway? Just take his foam nose off and then he's just a guy in big shoes," Dustin explained. This made El giggle.
"Fine. Fine! I'll go. But just to shut you all up. But I'm not going into the sewer, I'll keep watch," said Max.
"No! I want to keep watch. I have weapons," said Lucas.
"Too late, I called dibs," she retaliated.
"No, you didn't! You didn't say dibs," he argued.
"Just did, dingus."

"This is so gross. This is so gross," Mike repeated as he trudged through the gray water of the sewer. "I didn't bring extra clothes."
"Will you shut up? Please? We are all going through the same shit, literally, right now," Lucas said, waving his flashlight in Mike's face.
"Shhh!" El shushed. She was first in the lineup, then Dustin, Will, Lucas, and lastly, Mike.
The sewers were dark and eerily quiet. The only sound came from them walking through the water as the sound of sloshing echoed off the tin walls.
"This is so gross," Mike said again. Dustin turned around quickly, causing Will to bump into him.
"Say that one more time. I will strangle you. Do it. Say it again," he threatened.
"Please stop fighting you guys," Will said. He was immediately cut off by Mike.
"It's gross! This is disgusting!" He retaliated.
"That's it!" Dustin said, starting for Mike. He was held back by Lucas and Will. As their shouts echoed off the walls, the eerie silence turned to uncomfortable, thundering noise.
"Where's El?" Mike said suddenly, looking ahead behind Dustin to find the girl gone. Everyone froze and looked around frantically with their flashlights. Gone.
"Oh, shit."
