Anuj's POV:
"We can't do that Anuj what if this whole thing backfires? Anupama won't even think about it, let alone do it".
We both sink into the couch. I can't deal with this anymore. I can't have Anupama fight all alone for the love she deserves. She can't be constantly taunted for being a woman who simply loved a man. Who else should she love? Her children? Her family? Doesn't she already though? She loves everybody, even the neighbour's more family than her distant relative. What do they want from her? Really?
"Devika please give me space I need to talk to Anupama".
"Not in this state Anuj. Anupama can't see you this mad. She needs to also come up with her own solutions on how to make the whole family accept you and her, wholeheartedly too".
She pleads.
"Haven't we tried it all Devika?"
I feel myself getting hotter.
"Look at it on the bright side Anuj, her father-in-law supports her. Samar, myself and her sister-in-law, her uncle we all support this marriage. The date has been set, your marriage ceremonies are about to begin, everything is going to be okay just calm down and have this tea".
She hands me tea, I refuse it.
"Anuj please calm down. Should I call Malvika?"
I quickly stop her.
"No leave her alone out of this. She can't find out about this, just... just let her be".
"If that's what you want. Anupama!"
I raise my eyes as soon as Devika calls her name. She stood there by the door and waved at us. Devika rose and met her halfway. Anupama senses my worry and anger but I look away. She seats down and fiddles with her bag. Devika tries by all means to engage her into a discussion about cooking lessons but her eyes stay glued to mine.
I stare back at her, she furrows her eyebrows trying by all means to convey her worry on seeing me so upset. I take off my glasses."Devika leave us for a minute please".
She is adamant.
"No Anuj I still have something important I need to discuss with Anupama".
"Devika..."
"No Anuj"
Anupama's worry only heightens. She asks..
"Devika what's wrong?"
"Nothing Anupama. Let's go to the room I need to speak with you first only then I'll let you speak with Anuj. Okay? Let's go Anupama".
She stands up and took her hand, they disappeared to my bedroom.
...
"Devika what...?"
Devika leads me to the bedroom and sat me down. The dumbfounded me sits and wonder what is with the tension between them. I try to pacify the pacing Devika but she keeps on huffing and mumbling under her breath.
"It's wrong. It can't happen. I won't allow it". She keeps on reciting.
"What is wrong? What can't happen? What are you talking to yourself about?". I turn along with her on every turn, to be honest she is causing my head to spin.
She halts and breathes, drawing long breathings, in and out.
"Yes breath. In and out". I pat her back and got a hold of her arm. I sit her besides me.
"Now tell me what is the problem Devika".
She covers her face before speaking up.
"You trust me Anupama right?"
