POV Xavier
The night seized the power and the world around got devoured by darkness. I had been at the graveyard for several hours having brought with me the whole kit and caboodle to prepare something special. The full moon lit the the graveyard with pale light and shapeless shadows from graves like ghosts were lurking from here and there. The cold wind wrapped my body making me shiver, the nasty calls of ravens sobered to the soul. The brunches of old tall trees looked like arms of blackened skeletons threatening to grab me and drag to the underworld. In spite of the fact I knew the cemetery well 'cause my mother had been buried here after the sunset this place gave me blood-chilling vibes.
My ear tracked the crack of a branch behind my back. I listened thoroughly: maybe I would able to identify anything else. One more crack just behind me. Every muscle in my body tensed and the pulse increased. I rapidly turned around and saw a pale frowned face illuminated with a torch gazing at me.
- It's you, Wednesday, - I did my best to pretend I didn't get scared but my increased breath rate handed me over. My eyes were frantically scanning Wednesday. Her hands were dirty like she dug a grave with her hands.
- Did you expect to see anyone else in the graveyard at midnight? - she was staring at me without blinking having tilted her head to the side slightly.
- No, of course, not, - I rubbed my eyes with three fingers thinking that it would be impossible to get bored with this girl. And not to turn grey. - It would be freaking scary, if I did.
- Yes, you should be, - Wednesday was classic Wednesday.
- When I got your invitation from Thing, I thought that it's not a good idea...
Wednesday's eyebrows widened and I harried up to explain:
- I mean after what happened a couple of days ago with Tyler it's kind of dangerous to meet in the graveyard at night.
- Don't worry, this time I took a shovel, - Wednesday pointed at her backpack with her head. - Come with me. I have some business to do.
- Will you kill and bury me in this graveyard? - I smirked.
- I will see how it goes, - Wednesday said seriously and stepped off. I rushed to follow her hoping that her words were just a joke.We walked several minutes saying nothing. Time to time I looked at Wednesday and could bet her head was overwhelmed with thoughts. Sometimes she frowned but in several seconds her usual deadpan face returned back. Previously I had never noticed that Wednesday bit her lip when she was super concentrated and unconsciously my tongue licked my upper lip.
- We're here, - Wednesday suddenly stopped at her tracks near the grave and I could read the name "Rachel Addams" on it.
- Is she your cousin? - I asked gently after a small pause. Wednesday was still staring at the grave and the corners of her eyes were slightly turned downwards.
- Aunt, - Wednesday's voice sounded firmly but I could feel that she did her best to control it. - She wasn't even my aunt by blood. She was a wife of my uncle.
- Uncle Fester?
- No, Uncle Mateo. He is still in prison for being accused of eating three Girl Scouts.
- Did he really do that?
- Probably, - Wednesday answered abstractly. She made an attempt to make her next words sound indifferently but people who knew her well could recognise that drop of sympathy in her voice that she wanted to conceal so hard: - Mother and Father say that Uncle Mateo killed Auntie Rachel.
- Why?
- No, but she wasn't even honoured to be buried in Addams Graveyard.
- You miss her, - my quite words sounded more like a statement rather then a question.
- She was the one who gave me my pet Nero, - Wednesday seemed to ignore my words but later on I realised that it was her way to answer "yes". - I was 8 when Auntie Rachel died.
- Do you come here often?
- That's my second time.
- Why don't you come more frequently?
- I prefer to think of the reasons and ways of death than grieving about a person.
- Do you know how exactly Uncle Mateo killed her?
- No. But that would be interesting to know, - Wednesday spoke rather to herself than to me.
