Chapter 15 - Recruits

Avery's P. O. V.

Bushra and Z are leading Jewels, Justin, and I through the forest to get get the recruits they told us about. They suggested many people to us. One of people, I think his name was Jason - or something like that. He's part wolfblood and part demigod, son of Zues, I believe. Then there's Nico, he's a hybrid of wolfblood and demigod, son of Hades. There is also Nialler who is a wolfblood and vampire, only, he isn't evil (unlike Taylor). All of the people Bushra and Z suggested are hybrids of wolfblood and demigod (except Nialler and Harry who are both hybrids of wolfblood and vampire). But, they didn't only suggest guys, they also suggested some girls. Kallie, I think her name was, she is a daughter of Aphrodite. Jacki is a daughter of Poseidon, same as Bushra, Z, and Percy (except Z and Percy and sons of Poseidon, not daughters).

Anyway, we are speeding through the forest, headed to where the recruits are when I hear something move in the trees. My head whips in the direction of the sound only to find nothing but trees. I turn my head to look at Jewels, Z, Bushra, and Justin again. Looks like I am the only one who heard that, even though I don't have as good of hearing as the others. I say in my head. I decided the sound was just an animal up in a tree and I turned my focus back to where I was going. I feel my phone vibrate in the pocket of my stretchy skinny jeans. I started to contemplate how I am going to check the text message while super-speeding and dodging trees and low branches. I decided to switch on the cyborg part of me. Once I switch it on, I have it connect to my phone number so I have control over my phone without using my hands. I have it go into my messages and check the text message.

From Zayn-
Did you find the other me & Bushra?

I have it send a message back.

To Zayn-
Yeah, we're headed somewhere to get the recruits they suggested.

Within seconds, my phone beeped with Zayn's response.

From Zayn-
How many did they suggest? Hopefully alot, because we are definitely going to need the help.

I suprised myself when I texted back quickly.

To Zayn-
I don't know exactly how many, but definitely enough.

Once again, he texted back almost instantly. We kept texting back and forth for a few more minutes.

Zayn-
I hope so, but did they suggest Jason, Leo, Theo, and Seph?

Avery-
I know that they suggested Jason, and I'm not sure if they suggested Leo, Theo, and Seph, but I think so.

Zayn-
Let's hope you're thinking correctly.

Zayn-
Anyway, I need to go, they brought minions.

I decided not to text back to that last one since he's probably already fighting.

I switch off my cyborg side and focus on running again. I notice that only Z, Bushra, and Justin are running in front of me. Where is Jewels? I ask myself. All of a sudden, there's someone talking to me and their mouth is only inches away from my ear. I didn't recognize the voice which caused me to scream and jump back. I look to see who the person was and see Jewels. "Jewels! Don't do that, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" I say. "Sorry, but as I was saying, who is Zayn? The one you were texting just now." She said and I suddenly realized that she is holding my phone in her hand and it's unlocked and on my messaging, the messages between Zayn and I. "First of all, nosy much?" I say as I snatch my golden IPhone 6 out of her hand. She just shrugged. "And second of all, he's my brother." I say, locking my phone and putting it back in the pocket of my stretchy skinny jeans. "I thought Niall was your brother." She said, obviously confused. "He is." I confirm. Even after a few seconds o g contemplating it, she still had that confused look in her eyes. "I thought you only had one brother, Niall." She said and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Well, you know that battle with the Joker that I told you about?" I ask her. "Which one?" She asks. "The one that we almost lost? The one where we were all loosing energy and strength while the Joker was at full strength and hadn't lost a bit of energy?" I ask and she nods, waiting for me to continue. "Well, we almost lost that because the Joker knew all of our powers, how they work, and ways to get around them. He knew all but one of our powers. It was a power that Niall and I both share. It's a twin power. Niall calls it the twin. Anyway, it's where Niall and I can put our minds together, combine our powers, and multiply the amount of damage we can deal. It uses alot of our energy though. We only use it when we are out of options. The Joker was very powerful at the time. He knew our powers so well that he could get around every single one of them enough to where we couldn't hit him once with any of our powers. We were getting weaker and weaker ands the time went by while the Joker was basically only getting stronger. He came up to me and punched me square in the mouth and busted my lip really badly and bruised my jaw pretty badly. I fell to the ground and when my head hit the grass, something clicked in the cyborg part of my. I jolted to my feet and turned to Niall and told him to hold my hand and let his powers roam free throughout his body. He did as I told him and I could feel both of our powers and strength joining together. I could feel myself getting stronger. I felt my eyes change to a different color than they were originally and I let go of Niall's hand. I turned to face him and as I did, I saw the Joker look a bit taken back. I also saw my mom and dad step back and put an arm in front of Saskia and pull her back in a protective way. I turned to face Niall and saw that his eyes had changed like mine. His used to be a crystal blue, but now they are this really dark and creepy red that could scare anyone away (well, anyone but me) and I'm pretty sure mine were the same red. Having our bodies turned to each other, I could feel the power growing inside me. In between us, there was this flame that was the same red as Niall's eyes and it was growing larger and larger as the strength and power grew inside me. And then, finally, the flame shot at the Joker, causing him to go flying backward (unconscious) about 300 feet and about 300 feet in the air. I felt my eyes change back to their normal green/brown color only seconds before I fell to the ground breathing heavily. I didn't faint, luckily. I knew that Niall was doing the same and I didn't even have to look over at him. This, power that neither Niall nor I even knew we had was the only reason we won that. And, when we got home later that night, Niall suggested that we find another superhero who is willing to help us out, one who isn't very known, that most of the bad guys that we fight don't know or haven't heard of so they wouldn't know what what to expect from them. So, I suggested Malik Man, Zayn, since he's an orphan making him not very well known by the bad guys. The next morning, we went to the orphanage where he was and adopted him, and let him keep his last name, obviously. So, Zayn isn't my blood brother, but I love him like a brother and we fight alot less than Niall and I." I explain to Jewels. She was silent for a few minutes while she let everything I just said sink in. "Oh." Was all she said as Bushra, Z, Justin, Jewels, and I all slowed to a walking pace. A neighborhood full of 4-story houses came into view. As we walked further and further into the neighborhood, the sound of chatter and laughter grew louder and louder. I started to see a large group of kids that looked around my age (16 years old) walking towards us. They came to a stop when they reached (maybe) 3 or 4 feet in front of us. "Hey, Bushra, what's up, Z?" The guy toward the front who had quiffed blond/dirty blonde hair said. "Nothing much, man. But, I would like you all to meet Jewels, Justin, and Avery." Z said while motioning towards Justin, Jewels, and I when he said our names. "These are the recruits we were telling you about." Bushra said, looking at me. I just nodded. The guy who talked first spoke up again. "Hello, I'm Jason, son of Zues." He introduced, taking a moment to get a good look at Justin, then me, and lastly, Jewels. I noticed that Jewels and him locked eyes and couldn't look away from each other's eyes. A very beautiful girl with brunette hair spoke up next. "Hi, I'm Jacki, daughter of Poseidon." She said through a friendly smile. What? Do they just go around giving out that information to everyone they see? I hear Jewels ask in her head. "Jewels!" I scold. "What?" She asks. "Just because you say it in your head, doesn't mean it isn't rude." I scold again. "Sorry, maybe if you would stay out of my head." She said, getting all defensive. "I apologize for that. Anyway, I'm Avery." I said, returning the gesture. "You look offly familiar, Avery, where have I seen you before?" Another beautiful girl said with a determined look plastered on her face. For some odd reason, I felt as if I was being watched. I looked around at the group and come across a (I have to admit) pretty cute guy with dark hair looking at me. I couldn't figure out why he was looking at me like that, so I decided to be mischievous and read his thoughts. She looks weirdly alike Avery Vision, her name is even Avery. And, she was reading her friend's thoughts earlier. Or, maybe, just maybe, it was a lucky guess and she isn't really Avery Vision. He was thinking. It felt wrong reading his mind, I mean, I didn't even know the guy's name. So, I decided to get out of the boy's head now that I know why he was looking at me like I was some science project. All of a sudden, I felt warm and soft lips connect to mine and a gentle hand holding my chin in place. Well, that snapped me out of my trance. I say in my head as my vision comes back. I see that Justin was the one who kissed me to bring me back down to earth. "You zoned out, so I thought I would bring you back." He said as he returned his arm back to around my waist. "Well, that definitely worked." I say and I can feel my cheeks heating up slightly. Great, just, great! (Note sarcasm) Now I'm blushing in front of a whole bunch of people I don't even know! I say in my head. "I thought it would, and the way I did it was a bonus, along with making you blush." Justin said, but making the part about making me blush barely a whisper, because nobody seemed to notice my light pink cheeks, and if he said it any louder and someone caught it, I would have been embarrassed, which he knew. I felt my cheeks heat up even more, probably making my cheeks a mixture of all different shades of red. I hid my face behind Justin's shoulder, trying to hide the blush, but ended up failing miserably. "Aww, Avewy is bwushiwng!" I heard Jewels say in a baby voice behind me. I look up to send her eye daggers, but find another way to be my mischievous self. I saw Jewels' cheeks were just as red as mine, maybe even redder. I decided to mess with her. "Oh, you mean like you?" I teased, causing her to blush even more - if that's even possible. "Shut up." She said, sounding serious and rude, but added a slight laugh at the end to make it more playful. "Make me." I say playfully while smiling. "You know I only knew how to make you shut your mouth when we were kids." She playfully pouted. "I know how to make her be quiet." I didn't even have to look at Justin to know that he was smiling when he said it. When I realized what he meant, I felt my cheeks heat up even more. My cheeks probably look like they are on fire mixed with everything red. I thought. I felt him lean down (since he's taller than me) and kiss my cheek, and right where his lips touched, my cheek started tingling. When he pulled back, my cheek was still tingling right where his lips were just seconds ago. I already knew that when he said he knew how to shut me up, he meant kissing me full on the lips. "Anyway, as I was saying, I'm Percy, son of Poseidon." The same guy from earlier said. I glance over at Jewels and see that her and Jason are sharing cute glances with each other. They would make a cute couple. Note to self: get Jewels and Jason together. I say to myself. I had a feeling that Justin would be able to help me get Jewels and Jason together, so I decided to ask him if he was willing to help me out. Hey, Justin, don't you think Jewels and Jason would be a cute couple? I asked through telepathy. Yeah, why? He asked. Because I was thinking maybe me and you could get them together. Do you wanna help me? I asked him. Depends, what do I get out of it? He asks and I can see the slight smirk play across his lips. The satisfaction of knowing that you just set up one of the cutest couples and maybe, but there's a slim chance, I'll give you a kiss. I say as a giggle escaped my lips. Fine, I'm in. He said, making me giggle again. Okay, we will come up with a plan later. I say. Okay. He said, which was the end of our telepathic conversation. "I'm Theo, son of Hades." A guy said. "Emma, daughter of Apollo." A very pretty girl said. I could sense something coming my way. As it came closer, I began to know exactly what it was. Knives. It was knives. "Knives, dodge them." I warned the others. "Huh?" Someone said right before a knife came my way. I swung my body to the right (feet still planted on the ground) and the knife flew next to my head. Another knife came my way, but I couldn't dodge it completely, it skidded past my ear, and made it bleed (A/N: If you have seen Divergent, the part where Four throws the knives at Tris and one of them hit her ear, that's what happened here). "Nialler, Harry, don't." I hear someone say. "We aren't whole vampires, we can control our thirst, although, because she has that extremely strong state of nature, it's really hard not to kill her." One of them say. I can feel the wound healing, it will be completely healed in about 10 seconds. "How about now? You all good now?" I ask after my ear is completely healed. "How did you do that?" Someone asked. "The same way I knew that the knives were coming in the first place." I say. "Yeah, how did you do that as well?" Someone else asked. "The same way I can do this." I say and turn to the forest. I put my hand out and rise it in the air. There's this vine that comes out of the ground and grows with my rising hand. "And this." I say and put my other hand out and a flame appears in my hand. "The name's Vision. Avery Vision." I say like James Bond. "I knew it." A guy said. "So did I." Percy said. "You weren't sure, yet it was quite obvious." I said. I could sense something again. "Knife." I say. It wasn't aimed at me this time, it was aimed at Justin. I realize that he didn't know it was aimed at him. I pull him out of the way just in time for him to not get hit. The knife hit the ground before it could hurt anyone. I look in the direction the knives came from (the forest) and see a shadow. Scratch that, multiple shadows. I keep my eyes on the shadows for a few seconds while my advanced vision focuses so I can see exactly what it is. Once my vision focuses to the darkness of the forest, I can see what the shadows are. Minions. I identify in my head. "What are the shadows in the trees?" Justin whispers in my ear. "Minions. They are actually good creatures, but their leaders influence them to do good and bad, and their leaders are Taylor and the Joker, which they influence the minions to do bad." I explain. "So, those minions in the shadows over there, they are the one's who threw the knives at us?" I heard someone say. "Yes, whoever you are, which by the way, I don't know your name." I say. "Kallie, daughter of Aphrodite." She said. "So, Taylor and the Joker told the minions to try to kill us and they came and did as told?" A blonde boy said. "I think so, but I don't know for sure." I answer. "By the way, what's your name because I don't know your's either." I say. "Nialler." He said. After he spoke, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I have a feeling it was Zayn, so I pull it out and check the message, my assumption being correct.
