Part 1

~Lyra's POV~

"Captain, are you sure this is a good idea?" I glance at the tall man steering the ship.

"Are you doubting me Lyra?" he says, glaring down at me.

"No sir. It's just— I don't know. We've never done anything as big as this. We've stolen things, raided towns, but this is a whole kingdom." I fidget with my belt and avoid eye contact.

"That's what makes it fun. Go get my map. It's on my desk" he dismisses me.

"Yes sir" I sigh and walk down the stairs.

I see Puffy leaning over the railing, eyes on the sea, and wave at her. She comes walking over and smiles.

"Where are you coming from?" she asks.

"Just had a wonderful chat with Jasper" I groan.

"I spoke to him earlier. What's up his ass today?" she chuckles and follows me to Jasper's cabin.

"Probably the same thing that's been stuck in his ass since birth" I open the door and walk into the room, kicking the pile of clothes out of the way so I could get to his desk.

"Does he every clean in here?" Puffy scrunches her nose.

"I doubt it" I sort through his desk to find the map.

"What even is his plan" she admires the things on his bookshelves.

"To raid the palace and get something valuable" I shrug.

"Sounds stupid" she scoffs.

"Yup— ah, found it" I smile and take the map out of a book.

"Found what" she spins around to me.

"The map" I show her the piece of paper in my hand.

"Interesting" she hums.

We walk out of the room and close the door behind us, taking a breathe of the salty sea air.

"I'll be back. I just need to deliver this to him" I run up the stairs and back to Jasper.

"Took you long enough" he grabs the map from my hand and opens it.

"Sorry sir" I mumble and rock back and forth on my feet, trying my best to peak at the map.

My eyes widen and my heart beats faster.

We were almost there.

"Why are you still here?" he asks, shooing me away.

I scurry away and go to Puffy who was leaning against the railing with her eyes closed.

"Puffy!" I yell as I run down the stairs.

"Yes?" her eyes open and adjust to the bright sun.

"We're almost there" I breathe out.

"Fuck..." she sighs.

"We should stick together. It's better to group up than to be alone" I look at the island in the distance, it was getting closer and closer.

"Right." she looks at the island as well.

We stayed silent as the image of the castle was getting closer and closer. We had raided multiple towns and stolen loads of things, it was easy work. But this? This was new. Bigger. Bolder. Scarier.

"Attention!" The silence is broken by Jasper's raspy voice.

The crowd of pirates surrounded where he was standing, murmuring and clearly nervous.

"We are almost there. The plan is to get to the castle and take the crown. No matter what it takes. Do whatever you need to do." he looks at his crowd of loyal "servants".

"What about the king?" someone yells from the crowd.

"He'll be handled" he shoots a glance towards my direction.

"Lyra and Puffy will go their own way and take the king. He will join us as prisoner on our ship" he says proudly.

Puffy and I glance at each other as the ship erupts into cheers. I looked behind me and see the island. We were about to dock.

"Get ready crew. Everything is changing after this" Japser turns around and walks back to the wheel.

Puffy grabs my hand and gives it a reassuring squeeze. I put one hand on my sword and swallow down any fears I had.

It was just another mission.
