TW: mentions of death

~Lyra's POV~

"Oh my god Lyra there you are." Puffy sighs and runs up to me, pulling me into a hug.

"Ow- careful." I chuckle and hug her back.

"What?" she pulls away and looks me up and down.

I point to my leg and she frowns.

"What the hell did you do?" she asks, looking at my bandaged leg.

"More like what did Jasper do." I scoff, looking at Techno who wasn't leaving my side.

"Oh, where is Jasper anyway?" she asks, looking at the land.

"Oh um. Let's talk somewhere else." I say, pulling her up the stairs to the tent area.

"I'll be back." I yell to Techno who nods in response.

"Is everything ok?" she asks as we sit down.

"Jasper's dead." I say, watching her eyes widen.

"What? How?" she asks.

"I killed him. He was trying to kill Techno, so I shot him. He's dead. And before he died he stabbed me." I look down and wait for a reaction.

"Oh Lyra. Are you ok?" she puts her hand on top of mine and looks at me.

"I'm fine. Y'know I was sad, but there's nothing I can do now." I shrug, meaning everything I said.

"Seriously Ly. You can talk to me." she says softly.

"I'm serious. There's nothing I can do to bring him back and frankly I don't want him back." I say, pursing my lips.

"So now what? Are you gonna become captain?" She asks, still trying to process everything.

"I don't think so. Captain's life isn't for me." I shrug, taking a deep breathe.

"Then who will?" she asks.

"You will." I say, staring at her.

"I will?" she asks, eyes widening.

"Yes. The crew already respects and loves you, you know everyone, everyone knows you, and you'd be great at it." I smile, making eye contact.

"Yeah. I guess I will be captain." she smiles proudly.

"C'mon let's share the news." I take her hand and slowly stand up, limping over to the ledge.

"Excuse me everyone! I have some good news and bad news." I yell out, everyone's conversation stopping and their attention being brought to me.

"As you may have noticed, Jasper is not here. I regret to inform you all that Jasper has passed away." I look through the crowd and see Techno staring at me, admiration in his eyes.

The crew sounds confused and they all start conversing with each other.

"We now need a new captain. You may expect me to take over, but I will not. Instead, I am pleased to introduce your newest captain, Puffy!" I smile brightly as Puffy steps forward and the crew erupts into cheers.
