Dong-Wook gets a message from Runa saying that they need to talk. Figuring that maybe she found something about Taehyung's whereabouts since he hasn't been so lucky on that front, he doesn't think too much of it and invites her over to meet his place.
Not even a few minutes later as he sits down on his couch, kicking his feet up on the ottoman with a glass of bourbon in his hand, his phone buzzes in his pocket. He assumes it's her and doesn't look at the caller ID before answering it.
"Hello?"
"It's Jimin." The unexpected voice rings in through the other end.
The underboss hums as he takes a sip of his drink before answering. "What's up, boss?"
"She knows. I gave her the hard drive."
Dong-Wook stays silent for a few moments, processing what that meant and then he realizes that's probably why she's coming over to talk with him. He only hopes she can understand why he kept this secret all these years.
Let's just say he wasn't looking forward to this day for the simple reason of facing her wrath. Much like him, it was never a good idea to piss her off and on the other side of the phone, the mafia boss already knows what's going through the man's mind about this.
"She trusted you? That's surprising." The man responds, gulping down his drink before grabbing the liquor bottle and pouring more into the glass.
His boss chuckles, his tone lighthearted as he clarifies. "She doesn't trust me. Not yet at least. It took some convincing and that meant giving her specifics about our dealings to prove who I was. The girl is smart."
"Just like her mom and brother." The underboss adds and he hears a pleased hum from the other end.
"I guess we all share that same trait. Speaking of, is she coming over to your place? I assume she wants to talk to you and ask questions. It couldn't have been easy seeing our mother that way."
The older man sighs, distress washing over his features as he leans his head back and closes his eyes. "I can only hope she isn't angry with me."
"For keeping this secret?" His boss inquired.
"Exactly. Especially with what's happened with Taehyung and Dori lately. Both of them have been keeping secrets and adding this to her plate won't make her feel any better. I don't want her to question my loyalty."
Jimin hums in understanding, not too worried about it considering she knows very well that Dong-Wook always has her best interest at heart. "Remember who you are to her. I'm sure she knows she'll always be able to rely on you. You shouldn't doubt that."
"But-"
His boss cuts off. "Dong-Wook, you've known her all her life. She might be upset but once she processes this, she'll understand. Just give her some time if that's what she needs. It was a lot for me too remember?"
The underboss nods to himself unsurely, knowing how quick her temper can rise much like his own. "I will. What about you? Are you liking New York so far?"
The swift change of subject has his boss chuckling. "It's got its good parts, but I'm mostly here for my sister. When this is over, when Min-Su is done with, I plan on staying here by her side."
He downs yet another glass of liquor, feeling the burning liquid tickle his throat while it pools in the heavy pit of his stomach. "If all goes well, I doubt Runa would ever allow you to leave. Since you two have never even met she'll want her brother to stick around."
