"Hello, Orville, may I come in?" Caity asks, pushing open the door a little.
"Of course, Ms. Hammonds, how are you?
— Me, very well and you?
— I'm awake," he smiled, making her smile.
"You kept your sense of humor, that's good.
— I learned what you did for my grandmother, thank you Ms. Hammonds.
— I did not do much. You, on the other hand, had to do more than expected, you caused me a lot of trouble," she scolds him, falsely, relieved that he's fine.
"I wanted to respect my part of the agreement.
— It's true, we had an agreement. I would like you to do something for me, Orville, and for yourself. I need you to be well and get through your rehab because I have something for you here," she said, pulling a file from her back.
"What is this?" he asks, curious.
"This is a pre-approval for your enrollment at UCLA, signed by the Dean. I promised you, I never lied.
— It's true, you told me.
— There is only one thing to do to make it official, you have to get up and go meet the Dean to give him a little presentation. If he is convinced by your motivation, you will have a place and a scholarship. So what are you gonna do?
— I'm going to UCLA!
— Bravo Orville. I've toasted a lot of favors, so do your best, okay?
— I promise, Ms. Hammonds.
— Caity.
— Ms. Hammonds, I prefer.
— We're keeping in touch, Orville."
Saluting him, Caity turns and walks out of the room, closing the door behind her before seeing Lieutenant Sugiyama arrive.
"Definitely! I always find you here when I'm here, are you tracking my phone or what?
— What?
— Well, you and me, dinner tonight, does it suits you?" Caity says, looking him in the eyes.
"Sorry, I have an impediment.
— Of course. I would tell you to invite your wife or your fiancée, but that would be weird.
— I'm not married, I have another commitment, that's all.
— Do you find me too aggressive or direct? It's not a date, but to apologize for my behavior and the accusations.
— Tonight, I will accompany my father for his meeting at AA, I can't."
Caity suddenly feels bad.
"This afternoon, is it ok? Here, my address," she wrote on a piece of paper. "I will cook for you.
— It looks like a date.
— Is it going to make you uncomfortable vis-à-vis my father if we sleep together this afternoon? Will that be enough of an excuse? Will we start on new bases?
— You... want us to sleep together?
— No, we only have time for your break, so I suggest you fuck me at home, unless you find me repulsive?"
The Lieutenant looks around, checking to see if it's a joke or a hazing by his colleagues.
"It's not a set-up, I don't have a microphone, do you want to check?" Caity asks, pulling up her shirt, leaving Lieutenant Sugiyama in awe of Caity's bra. "No microphone, you see.
