It was just a normal day, nothing out of the ordinary. Coming home after a long day at school excited to be home with my mom and dad. My parents were very much in love even as a small child I could tell. We did everything together. From going on walks, watching tv and even playing pretend.
Everything was perfect until one morning I woke up to my dad screaming bloody murder down stairs. I'd had never in my ten years of life heard my dad so upset. It frightened me. My mind was racing with all kinds of crazy thoughts.
'Were we being robbed? I'm so scared...'
I felt tears filling up my eyes as I tried desperately to cover my ears from my dads whales. I heard a lot of things crashing around as it sounded like dad was running around the house in a frenzy presumably in whatever panic state he was in.
I slowly made my way out of bed and to the hallway leading to the staircase. Every step felt like ten large steps and my heart wouldn't stop pounding. As I reached the landing I saw dad pacing in our living room, phone in hand frantically pleading with someone on the other end.
That's when I noticed what was on the floor. I felt my heart drop into my stomach when I realized what was happening. It was mom. She had collapsed and wasn't moving.
"Momma...?" I muttered voice shaking.
I felt my throat begin to close up. I couldn't stop sweating but my body felt so cold. It was almost impossible to catch my breath and it felt like the room was spinning. I wanted to run down there to check on mom but my legs wouldn't move.
"Sarah?"
I snapped out if my daze. Dad saw me watching from the landing. I could hear the pain in his voice. His eyes were red and puffy. He was a mess.
He stepped towards the stairs, phone still gripped firmly in his hand. "G- go back to your room sweetie." he stammered. "I'll come check on you in a little bit okay?"
I obeyed only because seeing him so distraught worried me so badly.

I hid in my room for what felt like hours. Hearing family members and EMT's coming and going throughout the house. After some time my dad came to get me like he said he would and we took a car ride to the near by hospital. It was so uncomfortably quite in the car. Dad was smoking up like a chimney which was unusual for him because I never saw him chain smoke like this before.
'Something is wrong...' I thought.
My chest started to tighten up. There was going to be bad news and I knew it, I just didn't know what. The smell of cigarette's was nauseating. Dad took notice of his bad habit and opened to window to let the fresh air in.
We pulled into a parking spot and made our way into the hospital. Dad kept me close as we were checking in. I could hear his voice cracking as he was talking to the receptionist.
"That way and to the left honey." The woman said sympathetically.
We walked down a hallway and faced a door. The name plate read "Samantha Blaine."
'That's moms name.' I stared at the name plate unsure of what to make of everything that's happened so far. 'Just what in the world is going on here? None of this can't be real right? Yeah, this is all just some crazy dream that I'm about to wake up from. Right-'
"Sarah." Dad said in a somber tone.
I jumped at the sound of his voice. "Y-yes?"
He knelt down to meet my gaze, taking my hands into his. "There's no easy way to tell you this." He paused. His hands began to tremble as he took in a deep breath. "Honey, I'm so sorry. Your mothers gone."
I felt like my heart stopped. "Gone?" I questioned as I choked the urge to cry. "What do you mean? Where did she go daddy?" my face started to turn red as I started to sob.
My dad's heart broke at the site of me cry over my mom and there was nothing he could do aside to try his best to console me. "I'm afraid she can't ever come back. She's passed away, but I promise she loved you with all her heart." He took me into his arms as he spoke to me.
I could hear him silently sobbing into my shoulder. I held onto him as we both cried. Little did I know at the time but from that day on the next few years were going to be a living nightmare.
End of prologue.
