I'm not sure of how long I was out but when I came too I had the school nurse, the guidance counselor and few other teachers stand over me. My vision was still a little blurry and everyone sounded muffled. I felt really light headed still and I couldn't make out what was going on at first. After a few moments my senses returned to normal and I realized that everyone was checking on me because I had collapsed after the confrontation with the other girls. From what I could tell something must've happened after I did because everyone seemed really concerned for what happened to the girls after I passed out.
There was still glass from the fluorescent lights all over the floor. I could feel sweat all over me but my skin felt ice cold. The nurse put her hand over my forehead. It felt really warm as she lowered her hand to my cheek.
She then looked back to one of the other teachers and said something I didn't quite catch. I just felt so out of it and after a short while I was hosted up and led into one of the near by empty classrooms. They sat me down at one of the desks to let me collect myself.
Our guidance counselor Ms. Smith sat across from me. "Sarah." She started in a gentle tone. "Can you tell us what happened?"
The other teachers and the nurse left the classroom by this point leaving Ms. Smith and I alone. For some reason I don't know why but I felt as though I was in trouble. "W-what do you mean?" I asked sheepishly.
"Were Megan and the other girls bulling you again?" she questioned me with a worried yet sternness in her voice.
My heart skipped a beat when I heard that. I slumped back in my chair and started to fiddled with my hands and I couldn't even make eye contact with her.
She took note of my reluctance and said. "I know it can be very difficult to talk about. But you need to tell us what happened because those girl's are saying you did something to them."
I was shocked. 'are they trying to pin this on me?' I sat up and nervously looked at Ms. Smith. "I didn't do anything ma'am. Honest, they started bothering me." I explained.
She sighed as she folded her arms over the desk. "I see. I do believe you but there's something else that needs to be addressed." she paused for a moment, seemly trying to find the words she needed. "We're not entirely sure what's true or not but Megan and the other girls are saying you went as they claim 'berserk.' " She sounded as if she didn't believe them herself.
"Berserk?" I questioned. My face scrunched at the mere thought of it. "All I remember is them chasing me into the bathroom, beating me up then the lights were acting funny and that's it."
"I see." she sighed, she seemed to be at a loss.
Just then one of the teachers for before came back into the room. "Ms. Smith, Sarah's father is here to pick her up."
I looked in the direction of the door then back to Ms. Smith.
She nodded at her colleague and stood up then looked back at me. "Alright Sarah, your father's come to take you home for the day. But I want to be absolutely certain that you did nothing to those girls."
She had this look that told me that she was on my side. I nodded still not knowing what exactly was going on.
Just then my dad stepped into the room. His hair was a mess as though he hadn't brushed it in some time and he still looked pretty worn down. The two women stared at him for a moment then looked at me.
Dad looked at me and knelt down to meet my gaze. "What happened here Sarah?" he asked me. He looked so troubled, his eyes filled with tired worry. "It's not like you to get into fights." his breath smelled of cigarettes which means he had just had one.
"I- I don't know..." I stuttered. "They were making fun of me, chased me into the bathroom then they beat me up."
I could feel myself getting more upset and dad saw it too. He pat my head and smiled. "It's okay little bean, good old dad will take care of it. Go a head an get your things and we'll head out and get some ice cream."
Dad always took me out for ice cream anytime I was feeling sad. It's his way of telling me that I'll be alright. "Okay!" I chuckled as I shot up from my seat and hurried out the door.
I made my way to my locker, it was chilly outside so I needed to get my sweater. I swing on my backpack as I closed my locker door and make my way back to the class room to meet dad. While doing so I pass one of the neighboring rooms that had an open door. I realized Megan and her friends were sitting in a group talking amongst themselves.
"She's a freak! I don't know how she was able to do that." I over heard one of the other girls saying.
'Able to do what?' I wondered. Curiosity taking over I stood by the door to where I couldn't be seen by anyone inside the room. I couldn't believe what I heard next.
