Everyone around her was refusing to sleep apparently. Carol was curled up in the back crying, Andrea messing around with some ammo, and she could hear her dad moving around by her feet where he was also trying to sleep. She rolled over with a huff, it would do no good for them all to be up all night long. She felt her dad standing up so she rolled over and sat up as he walked past her to his crossbow sitting in the seat across from Andrea at the table.
"l need my clip now. I'm gonna walk the road, look for the girl." Her dad told Andrea who handed him the clip that was sitting in her hand. Her dad turned to look at Carol giving her a nod before exiting the RV. After a pause Andrea stood too, clicking a flashlight on and following her dad out of the RV. Blake huffed and dropped back down to her bed on the floor and tried once again to get to sleep. A few minutes later Carol was still sobbing and the RV was getting stuffy making her feel trapped. So she stood and walked out into the cool air of the night.
"You going out there too?" Dale asked from up where he was keeping watch.
"Nah, dad would kill me if I wandered off in the dark. Just needed some air, gettin' too stuffy in there." She told him, she wandered around to the ladder and started to pull herself up top with the man. Once she was up there she laid down so that she could see the many stars shining in the sky. Ever since everything went to shit she could see almost double the amount she used too. They littered the sky like pin holes filling up every little gap. "RV is all fixed up right?" She asked, suddenly breaking the silence.
"Yeah, got a good collection of parts too for whatever might hit us on the road to Fort Benning." He answered, god she had forgotten about Fort Benning.
It was only a few days ago the only worry they had was to get to the fort. But now they were in shambles, Sophia missing, Carl shot, they were spread out everywhere with no clue what was going on with anyone else. Carl being shot stuck to the forefront of her mind, she kind of regretted not going with Glenn to the farm house.
She just wasn't sure she wanted to try and get along with a new group of people, didn't want to endure the stares that came with it. Not without her dad at least. But she wanted to know if the boy was okay, the chick on the horse had seemed frantic to get Lori to come with her. And the fact that Shane wasn't the one to come get her, that it was some random person that no one knew, well that was concerning.
She knew the boy was eager to prove himself, that he was excited and his parents were letting him push boundaries. She knew he was going to get hurt, something was going to happen to him sooner or later with how eager he had been. She had just hoped that he would outlive his eagerness, he would learn what he needed and he would settle down before something bad happened.
"You thinking about Carl?" Dale asked as he sat down beside her gun in his lap.
Blake looked towards him, peeling her eyes from the sky. "Yeah, we ain't got no clue what the hell happened to him. That on top of Sophia, we just can't catch a break lately."
"It'll even out at some point, the world is good at balancing itself out." Dale told her softly. She hummed non committedly. Blake didn't know if that was how it worked, it hadn't been that way for Blake before the end of the world. Why would it start now. "You have been really good with him lately, Carl that is." Dale said after a pause, Blake's head snapped around to him. She didn't think anyone had been watching them, she wasn't sure why she was worried. Maybe because things would go back to how they were before when parents would eye her and her dad and pull their families in the other direction.
"He's kind of annoying." Is what she landed on telling him, Dale laughed and Blake smirked. "Nah, he's a good kid. That's why I'm worried about him, it ain't like he's soft but he's good. So good. To see what this world might do to him, what it might do to a lot of you, it makes me worried."
