A few days had past and Beth was awake, Blake had been avoiding the house not sure what she would say to the girl. It was decided that Rick and Shane were taking Randall out a ways away from them with some supplies and sent on his way. Blake had used the last few days to hunt in the woods around the farmhouse. Her dad joined her more often than not and they were able to get a few squirrels on their trips. It wasn't much but it beat sitting around at the farm doing nothing.

Blake was just getting back from one of those early morning trips out into the woods. She had found a patch of strawberries and some blackberries that she picked. She had filled her pockets with the berries and there was enough that someone could make a pie or something so she headed for the house. She was hoping to drop them off with Lori who had kind of commandeered the kitchen, taking over as a housewife as Carl liked to remind her.

Blake entered the house grateful that the bedroom doors to Beth's room were closed. Her hat was still sitting on the bedside table but Blake hadn't worked up the courage to go in and grab it. She beelined it to the kitchen where she was met with Lori doing dishes.

"I found a bunch of berries today," the girl said. She pulled out a bowl and started emptying her pockets into it.

"Oh those look good," Lori said as she looked at the berries Blake had gathered. "I'll wash them up, Carol or Patricia might even want to make a pie from those." Blake nodded as she emptied the last of them from her pocket. She was about to leave when Lori caught her hand.

"You sit down and eat, we have some chicken that needs to be eaten," she told the girl. Blake nodded and watched as Lori fixed her up a plate with some chicken, cucumbers and tomatoes. Blake loved the fresh veggies, growing up the only vegetables she ever got were out of a can. And sometimes if Miss Jenkins was feeling generous she would give her some from her little garden. Blake stood in the kitchen and ate as Lori cleaned up around her.

"You should go talk with that girl," Lori told her, breaking the silence. "I think she could use a friend and last I saw you two were growing pretty close." Blake stuffed the last of her chicken in her mouth not looking up at the woman.

"I don't know what I'd say, I ain't good at that stuff," Blake responded through a mouthful of food.

"You wouldn't have to say a thing, just being there would be all she would need." Blake looked over at the closed door that would lead to Beth's room. She could go in there, give the girl some company. It's not like she had anything else planned for the day. But if she did, she could just make everything worse. "Here, how about you go in there and grab her plate for me. Start off small," Lori offered. Blake sighed but stood from where she had leaned against the counter and wiped her hands on her pants.

"Alright, I'll grab her plate." Blake agreed moving towards the room. When she walked in Blake kept her head down and reached for the plate that was sitting on the table. It was untouched, not a bite taken. "You didn't eat anything," Blake blurted out, she cussed herself with how that had sounded but forced herself to meet the blonde's eyes. Tears were rolling down her face as she stared at Blake, she clenched her jaw as she looked at the girl.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to say it like that... I just think you should try and eat," Blake trailed off as the blonde continued to stare at her.

"It's just so pointless." Beth said, Blake looked at her confused.

"I don't think it's pointless, especially because you went a bit without eating." Blake told her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at the girl.

"Not the eating Blake, all of this. How are we supposed to do this?" The girl cried. Blake bit her lip, she wasn't sure how to answer that question, she had never once thought about giving up.
